I am a straight-forward but empathic therapist, who also appreciates the same from her clients. I also believe in the social work mission of starting where the client is, so sessions are based upon that analogy. I have experience in many areas, including hospital, foster care, group homes, forensics, Veterans, home health, etc. I received my Masters of Social Science Administration from Case Western Reserve Univerity, and my Doctorate of Psychology from California Southern University. Although I have a doctorate degree, my scope of practice does not fall under psychological testing, pharmacological practices, nor community services. I only do individual therapy so if you need case management (such as letters), family/couples therapy, psychologicial testing, or medication, please refer to those licensed or practicing in those areas.

You might be at a turning point. Drained by work or the people around you, running on empty after years of giving more than you had to give, or trying to find your footing after a major life change. Maybe you're realizing how much of yourself you've set aside for others, or you're not sure who you are outside of a role you've outgrown. These are the kinds of crossroads I help people navigate. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Sacramento. My background spans community mental health, residential treatment, and crisis intervention, with extensive experience in trauma and addiction recovery. Before that, 15 years in the arts and nonprofit world gave me a close-up view of the burnout that people who give a lot of themselves often carry quietly, which is a big part of why that work speaks to me now.

You lead people, make decisions, and carry responsibility for outcomes that affect other people's livelihoods. That does not stay containedinside the workday. My clients are founders, executives, business owners, physicians, attorneys, and managers who are successful by every outward measure and are carrying more than the people around them realize. They come to me when a hard quarter starts to feel likea verdict on them, when an employee problem sits with them at dinner,or when they know exactly what conversation needs to happen and keep putting it off. I have been licensed since 2017 and have worked in behavioral health for more than a decade. I also spent years leading inside large organizations, responsible for teams, budgets, and outcomes. Hello, I'm Dr. Scheherazade Pheng, a licensed Clinical and Forensic Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience helping adults across California. My work has been at the intersection of mental health, the criminal justice system, and the families whose lives are deeply affected by it. One of the things that matters most to me is making quality mental health care accessible. I welcome clients with a variety of insurance plans because I believe the support you receive should never depend on the insurance card you carry. Throughout my career, I have learned two important truths. When one person enters the criminal justice system, an entire family is impacted. Parents, spouses, grandparents, and children often carry overwhelming stress, grief, fear, and uncertainty while trying to keep moving forward. I have also seen that many communities near California's prisons and detention facilities have limited access to mental health care, despite having a tremendous need for support. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, anger, shame, or the emotional challenges of loving someone who is incarcerated, you will find a compassionate and judgment-free space in my practice. Together, we'll work toward healing, greater clarity, and renewed hope. You deserve support just as much as the people you care about, and I'm here to help when you're ready. Dr. Pheng is also the author of The Other Side of the Wall: A Healing Guide for Families of Incarcerated Loved Ones, available at thriveinstitutefbh.com.

Welcome! My name is Sheri and I’m glad you’re here. Starting therapy can be a big step, filling you with a sense of hope, nervousness, or something in between. Taking this journey to help yourself feel better in your own skin, or to function better in relationships, is a huge act of self-care. Sometimes our old wounds, that have yet to heal, play an unsuspecting role in our lives today. Other times, we might feel stuck or get anxiety at the thought of certain changes – even those we want to make. I really enjoy working with clients to help them better understand themselves, feel better individually and in relationship and move towards the version of themselves they want to be. You being here means that you’re taking steps in this direction. My door is open when you’re ready to begin. Feel free to schedule a 15 minute phone consultation with me to see if we are a good fit.

Trauma, recovery and post-traumatic resilience are among my areas of focus. I am trained in EMDR, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, exposure therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to provide structured treatment to address extreme stress and PTSD. Before I was a therapist, I worked for many years in art and community organizations, and I tend to be a good fit for artists, activists and unconventional thinkers. I care deeply about the health effects of poverty, inequality and oppression, and I value and promote self-determination and self-actualization. I am a long-time foster/adoptive parent in a biracial family; my work is informed by my lived experience as well as my education.

A little about me: I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who, come to find out, originally got into this field largely to figure myself out. If you’ve never heard that from a therapist before, it’s actually a pretty common thread among us, we often subconsciously step into healing others as a way to find healing within ourselves. About 22 years ago, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD, and roughly 15 years ago, I received an OCD diagnosis. Having these two conditions overlap made things incredibly challenging throughout much of my life and if I’m being completely honest, navigating that balance can still have its moments today. But there’s something powerful about a wounded healer: we tend to want more for ourselves and for the people we serve than just standard, status-quo talk therapy. We dig deeper because we need real answers on a personal level, and once we find what works, we want to share it with the world.

I help my clients realize their personal goals through a trauma-informed and empathic approach. My expertise is working with people who have experienced a traumatic event and/or are experiencing mental health struggles/issues, helping them uncover obstacles that hinder their ability to reach their fullest potential. My lived experience brought me to help others as I would have loved to be helped: someone to tell me I’m not alone. Life is hard, and traumas become unbearable without someone in your corner to help process what you have been through.

Many of my clients come to me initially feeling lost, overwhelmed, confused, or just wanting to expand their purpose, challenge themselves, or even rediscover who they are. Many are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, or even symptoms they can't explain or identify. I serve a vast variety of clients and complexities, but one common goal is- "I just want to feel better." And together... we accomplish that and more. We’ll work together to develop strategies that empower you to overcome obstacles and bounce back stronger.

Hello! My name is Gloria Rojas and I am a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience in the mental health field. Outside of private practice, I work as a Director of Mental Health for a community-based mental health agency. I graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Master’s in Social Work and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe space to process, heal and rebuild. My services can be provided to clients with the following concerns: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, behavioral issues, ADHD, loss/grief, acute stress, adjustment to life transitions, women's issues, parenting, relationship difficulties, generational trauma, and cultural issues. All services can be provided in English and Spanish. I was inspired to become a therapist because I truly love helping others and feel a great privilege to be trusted with assisting someone on their journey to healing. I am driven to do this work every day because I have been blessed with experiencing the power of mental health services in my own family of origin. Additionally, as a professional and mother, I hope to serve as an example to others of overcoming obstacles, social pressures, and cultural dynamics to have a balance and thrive in all areas of life.

Frequently asked questions

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in California. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Yes! If you use Medicare you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Medicare you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
