LMFT, 11 years of experience
Hello. I went to school in Humboldt County, (so yes, I'm very free spirited,) and I now live in the SF Bay Area. I made a personal goal to move back to San Francisco and I hope to help others achieve what they love too. I’ve been practicing for 9 years with 150+ clients with various backgrounds & experiences. My favorite modality is Humanistic or Person Centered therapy because I believe everyone has the capacity to use their strengths to heal wounds and move forward to find fulfillment in life.
I like to begin therapy by getting to know you as a person, answering any questions you have about me or therapy, and building a working alliance together. Many people don't know what to expect in the first session, so to begin, I have my homework of completing an initial assessment with you to get to know your strengths and challenges, then to construct a simple goal(s) that can change anytime. Grow is super flexible with goals so you can change or alter your goals whenever you'd like to or is something new pops up in your life.
I’ve worked with many people & feel that I can empathize and help you through difficult times and create goals such as: leading a more fulfilling life, feeling better each day, reducing stress, and working through life changes. My methods are to help clients feel more freedom and empowerment in their lives and feel less bogged down by struggles or suffering.
I’ve worked with many people who do not even know what goals they have to work on when they come in. I've spent the longest time in my career with high risk foster youth, gender affirming care, and trauma heal from. I’ve had experience with young adults who are starting out in life, and older adults who care to share their life stories and process the need for change or acceptance. Even if you’ve never been diagnosed with any specific mental health concern, you're welcome to come in and get help as you need it.
I have 6 years of specific experience with trauma informed care, PTSD, & its effects on the body, mind & spirit. Often times clients are diagnosed with depression and anxiety but have some trauma in their background that leads to these symptoms. I have experience with severe trauma. I believe that most symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger issues, phobias, ADHD, relationship issues, are caused by traumatic experiences. Often I find talking through traumas to process them to be helpful and effective.
This form of psychotherapy focuses on helping people to accept their thoughts and feelings, rather than judge or change them, and then actively commit to behaviors that align with their core values, leading to a more fulfilling life. Mindfulness is a large part of this goal. Mindfulness is simply being in the here and now. Even if you become distracted, noticing you are distracted means you are being mindful.
I use traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as it is one of the most proven ways to reduce certain symptoms & make progress on your goals. These include tracking triggers, moods, certain behaviors, and positive changes. This may include reading, journaling, and learning to decrease stress and anxiety through coping skills.
My personal favorite treatment methods are Person-Centered and Humanistic, both which focus on empathy, a clients strengths, and the inherent belief that clients can sustain personal growth and empowerment.
