During our first meeting we will have brief introductions. I will review your anxiety GAD-7 and depression scores PHQ-9. Then I typically ask how you are feeling in general and if there is any problems you would like to talk about. I have a conversation with you to assess if you can complete sentences and what zone you are in. You may not feel like talking straight away. Start crying or just lose it. Then I would let you rest until you can compose yourself and we can begin our conversation. I would then start with a preliminary diagnosis and prescribe a medication for your diagnosis and probably refer you to therapy.
Thank you for asking about the areas I feel are my biggest strengths. I have extensive training at the University of Cincinnati/Hospital in Ohio and did a comprehensive study at the Anxiety and Depressions Research Center at UCLA. I also work with OCD children and ADHD children.
During a psychiatric med management session I may use cognitive therapy during the visit
PTSD: Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, commonly known as EMDR, is a mental health therapy method. EMDR treats mental health conditions that happen because of memories from traumatic events in your past. It’s best known for its role in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but its use is expanding to include treatment of many other conditions.
Empty chair The empty chair exercise is an experimental, role-play method that aims to allow you to open up, and share your emotions and thoughts. It’s thought to be particularly useful for resolving marital conflict, or other unfinished business. You’ll have an imaginary conversation with another person or parts of yourself, such as a trait or habit. To do this, you’ll sit opposite an empty chair and be asked to imagine that the person who you want to talk to is sitting there. Later, you may switch seats and put yourself in the perspective of the other person, so you can continue the conversation.
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, MBCT, is a modified form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices that include present moment awareness, meditation, and breathing exercises. This therapy was formulated to address depression.
