Hi, I'm Sylvia. Life can be difficult and overwhelming and we may feel lost and confused of what to do to handle life stressors. I genuinely care about your wellbeing and will help you identify practical skills to aid in dealing with anxiety, depression, and an array of other concerns. Therapy is not a one-size fits all approach, but together, we will find the technique that works for you. I am a License Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. In 2000, I graduated from the University of Texas at Brownsville with a Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling. I have 20 years of experience as a counselor. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults. I am currently working only with adults. I only do individual counseling. I do not do couples therapy. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered, and Solution Focus Therapy to help my clients identify techniques and coping skills that will work them. Providing clients an opportunity to express themselves without judgment. Helping clients work through issues inspiring and motivating them to be all they are capable of being. Helping them find hope when they feel hopeless.
In our first session, we will look into what you are seeking help with. I will provide empathic, active listening and a non-judgment, supportive environment. You are free to share as much information as you are comfortable sharing. We will work together to create a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
I believe my strengths as a therapist are that I can provide empathy to my clients including warmth, friendliness, understanding, and affirmation of emotions, to build a therapeutic relationship at the beginning of therapy, providing flexibility by using interventions to fit with my clients' personality, needs, and preferences. I believe in creating an atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable enough to speak openly about difficult topics.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients to identify, reframe and challenge negative thought patterns that cause anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. It has been very successful in treating anxiety, depression and low self-esteem issues.
I used Person-centered therapy to empower and motivate my clients in the therapeutic process.
