Like the name of my practice, I believe individuals are also capable of blooming throughout even the most difficult of circumstances. As a therapist that treats anxiety, ocd, depression, and trauma it is my goal to help individuals have a better understanding of themselves, process past pain, and feel confident in moving through life. I aim to be that safe guide that will assist you with reaching the life you want. Ultimately, you are the boss and have a say in what changes you want to make and your goals. With the help of my expertise, I will assist you with finding meaning in your life, facing painful situations, and living a life you value. Throughout this process I encourage transparency and open communication, as this is your life not mine. YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT SPOT. I understand, I have been there too, watching myself go through life while feeling like a shell of a person. After experiencing several traumatic events, the loss of both my parents in my early 20’s, and experiencing homelessness I was left reeling with a variety of painful emotions. With the support of some wonderful individuals, I was able to grab control of my life and continue to live boldly. Therapy with me isn't about becoming someone "different.” There is no such thing as perfection, only progress. I believe you deserve to be heard, validated, and supported. Your story is yours and just as important as anyone else’s story.

Please read my profile carefully before scheduling an appointment. **I AM ACCPETING NEW EMDR CLIENTS ONLY. ****I do not offer talk therapy***** **IMPORTANT:::: PLEASE SCHEDULE IN ANY SLOT. THIS WILL NOT BE YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT. WE WILL SET THAT AFTER YOU COMPLETE THE PAPERWORK.** Greetings! I'm so glad that this website has led you to this profile so I can say CONGRATS on taking the first step towards mental health counseling. I am a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in the Commonwealth of Virginia trained in EMDR. I have been in this field for 10 years. I have provided therapy in a variety of settings that include community health centers, juvenile detentions, county jail, and private practice, and currently work as a full-time crisis clinician for a community service board. Through these settings, I have had the opportunity to treat many conditions like ADHD, ODD, many personality disorders, PTSD, Major Depression Disorder, Anxiety, Bipolar and addiction. I believe that everyone has a story and believe that everyone has the right to tell that story, their worries, desires, and goals in a supportive, unbiased environment. I am always honored when a client chooses me to be the therapist to guide and support them through their mental health journey. The best part about mental health concerns/addiction is that recovery exists. You are the driver to that recovery and you are at the beginning of that road. I can help you identify barriers and help you explore coping skills and other resources to be successful in mental health recovery or your goals.

Hey there, I’m Jamie (she/her). If you struggle to feel "seen", if you experience stress with your identity or in your relationships, or maybe if you're new to therapy or you've had not-great encounters with therapists in the past, I hope you'll book a session and give me a try. My approach is intuitive, collaborative, and conversational, and prioritizes a safe and inclusive experience for people from diverse and often marginalized backgrounds. I offer therapy services for adolescents, adults, and couples/expansive relationships to help you improve communication, develop self-compassion, and find a deeper connection to your true self and each other. I am a sex-positive, body-accepting, anti-racist, LGBTQ+ ally in all aspects of my life, and this open-hearted stance deeply informs my work as a clinical therapist. Over the past three years I have developed a personal mindfulness practice and find that these techniques can be really helpful in therapy as well. I have a lot of experience, but I am not the expert in *you* - let’s work together to help you discover and follow the path you choose. As far as credentials go: I'm a clinical social worker independently licensed in Virginia and West Virginia, a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work, a trained Acu-Detox Specialist, and have been a clinical therapist for 12 years. I have been trained and am experienced in the treatment of multiple conditions including PTSD, depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders, and chronic pain.

Hello I am Laura Cahill! I am a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a love for the art of engagement in the work of therapy. Do you feel like your emotions have taken over and pushed you out of the driver's seat in life? In life, we often experience challenges, unexpected stress and transitions, trauma, hurt, grief and loss. Understandably, we may struggle with powerful emotions that seem to almost overtake us. Part of the human experience is wanting to feel in control of our inner and outer lives. And when our natural emotional responses to difficult experiences and circumstances threaten that sense of control, we may find ourselves fighting our feelings. It’s time to step back from the battle-not by retreating, but by re-framing. Our emotions and feelings are not our enemies, they are messengers. This is where our work begins. We will focus on how to hear those messages by learning the skills needed to hear, manage and interact with these feelings to help calm the turmoil that life has taken on, understand and recover from the past, and to be fully present to our current experiences. To have the opportunity to create a life that is built on your terms and not defined by what has happened to you. Entering into the world of therapy can feel overwhelming and a bit scary (well done making it this far). I applaud your bravery and commitment to your process of healing and recovery and I would be honored to have the opportunity to get to know you better and to be a part of this journey with you.

By addressing these root causes, I believe individuals can begin to break the cycle of unhealthy behaviors and make meaningful changes in their lives. I have been practicing as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida for the past 23 years and am also a Licensed Therapist in Virginia, largely with a focus in the areas of depression, anxiety, thought disturbance, addiction, emotion regulation, relationship distress, and self-esteem. I feel many of the responses we struggle with are connected to a traumatic event (or perceived trauma) from the past. Currently, my primary focus has been in the individual realm, with a focus on relationship growth. I will encourage you to prioritize the areas you wish to address in therapy and tailor my approach on an individual basis. I believe in client autonomy so the areas that are addressed are the areas you want to address. I draw on several treatment modalities (including, but not limited to, Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy) to allow you to further develop your strengths and help you meet all of your treatment plan goals at a speed that works best for you. I also have completed training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy as well as the Developmental Model for Couples and integrate both of these approaches into my relational therapy practice. Overall, I help you to see that managing the stressor is more important than just managing the stress as it will allow you to cope with anything that comes your way.

I appreciate that each person brings to therapy a unique self: the combination of one's personal characteristics, early family relationships, and life experiences. Many times, our most significant growth occurs because of learning to cope with challenges that occur in life and the stress that often accompanies change. Therapy can be an excellent tool to help clarify your thoughts, as well as reach a healthy life balance. I look forward to meeting with you and working hard together to explore the deeper meanings of your experiences as they relate to the present, and how you would like to see yourself in the future.

Some of my other specialties include short-term, solution-focused therapy; cognitive behavioral therapy techniques; psychodynamic approaches; and marital counseling. Some of the problems I am particularly keen on solving with my clients include issues with self-image and confidence; dating and relationships; boundary-setting and assertive communication; as well as general anxiety management; and learning to identify and productively resolve emotional unrest. I am also very experienced in cognitive restructuring, which is just a fancy way of saying helping to change the way a person thinks about the world and their place in it. I also enjoy aiding people in goal setting and identification, meaning-making, and navigating family conflicts. If you feel any of this could be helpful or useful to you, please do not hesitate to reach out! (Note: I do work with couples, but only on a cash-pay basis. Also, I only work with ages 18+)

Hello, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience who is licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina. I am currently providing individual therapy with adults. I take a client centered approach to help people identify their biggest stressor and then work with them to find a way to address and alleviate that stressor. One of my favorite moments is when the client begins to realize they can do all of this on their own and they can fly through life.

I understand that life can be overwhelming and we all need someone to listen at times. It can be helpful to evaluate our lives, problems or certain situations in a safe and confidential setting. Current stressors, such as problems with work, family, romantic relationships or finances can make it difficult to function adequately. I have been working as a counseling psychologist for over 10 years with most of my experience with adult individuals. I enjoy conducting therapy with people from different backgrounds and have worked successfully with individuals who have experienced various types of trauma, such as childhood abuse, sexual or physical assaults, combat or domestic violence. I am also experienced in treating anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, anger management problems, or problem solving deficits. Making health behavior changes, such as behavior activation or weight management, can be achieved via therapy and I have successfully worked with individuals who wanted to improve their health. I am originally from Germany and I speak English and German. I also lived in Switzerland and England for a while. I studied Psychology in the United States and graduated with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. If you are interested in booking a session with me, please call 1 (786) 244-7711 or email reception+Dr.13719@growtherapy.com.

Life is not easy, and problems are never simple. In my view, therapy is offering guidance and support to ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances. Together, we will work to make the changes that are most important to you. I use a collaborative approach, working to fully understand the issues that you are facing. My goal is to create a safe space leaving you with no doubt that you are heard and valued. I provide the necessary support allowing you to face the overwhelming, and often daunting, life circumstances that you may not have been able to address on your own. Trust is a key factor in the therapeutic relationship. I believe that helping individuals learn to trust in their ability to change is paramount.

Hi, I'm Tara. I'd like to tell you a little about myself since I will be asking a lot about you! I come from a pretty dysfunctional family background with a lot of addiction and strife. So after I completed undergraduate school, I worked at a residential substance use disorder facility in Virginia, working with families of patient's there. I learned that folk with substance use issues also have depression, anxiety, bi polar disorder, and other mental health and social skill and communication problems. This prompted me to do something I said I would never do...... go back to school. I started Graduate school in 1992 and finished in 1994 and received my MA in Professional Counseling. I worked at a CSB and did my residency there. I started working for myself in February 2001. I work with 18 year old and up. When I am not working, I volunteer with a cat rescue group and I take care of "bottle babies" in the spring and raise them until they are old enough to be adopted. I enjoy going to the movies, the theatre, musicals, reading mysteries, watching netflix and prime video and cooking. I love my 5 cats and one dog. I am very Client Centered, meaning - I don't think the therapy can go very far if there isn't a therapeutic connection. I work with anxiety disorder, substance use disorders, depression, Bi Polar disorder, Parenting . If you do not make yourself a priority, you cannot be the best friend, partner, wife, husband, employee, parent, friend, Truly, I am here to help you in whatever you are experiencing.

I have been licensed since 2017 and I've been working in the mental health arena for just under a decade. I began working in community mental health and that gave me an excellent opportunity to work with people who were dealing with a large variety of issues, including significant trauma, depression, anxiety, self-harm, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, people struggling to find motivation, people who are grieving significant losses, people with attention or focus issues, and people just trying to find their place in the world. My primary concern is ensuring that you feel comfortable and safe to share openly. Wherever you are on your adventure, I want to meet you there and work with you until you reach your destination. I primarily practice cognitive behavioral therapy and I work very hard to keep myself updated on treatments that are identified as best practice therapy models by the state of Virginia. It is important to me to provide a service that is supported by research to ensure that my clients get the best service available. I tend to pull a lot from DBT, strength based counseling, motivational-interviewing, solution focused therapy, and mindfulness. It should also be mentioned that I have a lot of experience working with people who have had significant legal issues. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and I love to learn.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Virginia rather than a city like Richmond?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Virginia from Norfolk to Roanoke! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Virginia.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
