Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session, which is often called an intake session, is a chance for us to get to know each other. During this time, I’ll ask questions to better understand what brings you to therapy, what challenges you’re facing, and what your goals are. We’ll also go over important background information such as your personal history, relationships, emotional and physical health, and any past therapy experiences. This session is about creating a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard and understood. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once—we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I’ll also explain how therapy works, discuss confidentiality, answer any questions you have, and work with you to create a plan that’s tailored to your individual specific needs. Most importantly, this session is a two-way street: it’s not only for me to learn about you, but for you to get a feel for how I work and decide if you feel comfortable moving forward together. In working with adolescents/teens it is important for me to establish a rapport and trusting relationship. This may take a few sessions. As a parent you are a key adult in the child's life and your participation and support in therapy is very important. I work with ages 10 and up, please keep in mind telehealth therapy does not work for everyone and can be very difficult for younger clients especially those who struggle with attention.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified School Psychologist come from the unique combination of these two roles, which gives me a holistic understanding of both emotional and academic challenges. This allows me to see the whole person and how different areas of their life—such as school, family, and emotions—interact and affect their well-being. I specialize in working with adolescents and families, drawing on my experience in school settings to address issues like ADHD, anxiety, trauma, and family dynamics in practical and relevant ways. I am deeply committed to creating a compassionate, non-judgmental space where clients feel safe, heard, and respected. By meeting clients where they are and tailoring therapy to their individual needs and goals, I foster a collaborative environment that empowers clients to take an active role in their growth and healing. Additionally, my background in school psychology strengthens my communication and advocacy skills, enabling me to effectively support clients within educational and other systems.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Here is a little bit about me and my work, so you can decide if we might be a good fit. I provide individual and family therapy to clients of all ages, with a special focus on adolescents and their families (ages 10 and up). My experience includes working with issues such as depression, anxiety, grief & loss, neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma/PTSD/abuse, and family challenges/parenting. What sets my work apart is my background as a certified school psychologist, which gives me a deep understanding of the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs that many adolescents, teens, and young adults face today. This insight allows me to collaborate more effectively with families and tailor therapy to each client's unique situation. I approach therapy with warmth, empathy, and a non-judgmental attitude, always aiming to build trust and meet clients where they are. I believe in creating a safe, supportive space where you can feel truly heard and supported as you work through challenges and move toward positive change. In addition to therapy, I also provide LPC/LPCMH supervision for professionals seeking licensure.

I think Keisha and I can relate to things. I’m a pretty good judge of character. I like her personality.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Certificate of Completion "The Beck Initiative" with Dr. Aaron Beck at the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. I meet my clients where they are at and individualize my approach to their needs using CBT techniques and strategies. CBT is an evidence based therapeutic approach that can help with many issues like depression, anxiety, problems with alcohol or drugs, relationship troubles, eating issues, and serious mental health conditions. CBT has been found to work just as well as, or even better than, other kinds of therapy or medication.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT is a type of evidence based therapy that helps people manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and handle stress in healthier ways. It teaches practical skills like how to stay calm during a crisis, how to express feelings without hurting yourself or others, and how to be more present in the moment. It’s especially helpful for people who feel overwhelmed by their emotions, have trouble with self-harm, or struggle in relationships. The goal is to help you build a life that feels more balanced and worth living.

Adlerian

Adlerian therapy is a type of counseling that focuses on helping people feel connected, capable, and valued. It looks at your whole life and not just your problems. This is to understand how your early experiences, family, and beliefs about yourself shape how you act today. The idea is that everyone wants to belong and feel important. In therapy, we work together as a team to figure out what might be getting in the way of that and how you can make positive, meaningful changes in your life. It’s a very encouraging, respectful, and goal-focused therapeutic approach.

Positive Psychology

Positive psychology therapeutic approach focuses on what’s right with you—not just what’s wrong. We take on a strengths based approach Instead of only trying to fix problems This approach helps you build on your strengths, boost your happiness, and live a more fulfilling life. We look at things like your values, gratitude, optimism, and personal goals to help you grow and thrive. The goal is to help you feel more energized, resilient, and connected to what really matters in your life.

Child Parent Psychotherapy

I am trained specifically in PCIT (Parent Child Interactive therapy) and Triple P (Positive Parenting Program). Both are evidence based theraputic approached to assist families in building the skills needed to successfully feel empowered and confident in their parenting skills. I use skills in both to meet the specific needs of the families I am working with to help support positive family relationships, and addressing challenging child/teen behaviors.
