Life transitions, grief, and loss can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to face them alone. In therapy, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel comfortable being open and vulnerable, while also finding the encouragement you need to move forward. My approach blends empathic listening with practical planning, helping you draw on your strengths while working through challenges. I believe therapy should be collaborative and tailored to your unique needs—there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Together, we’ll identify what matters most to you and create a path toward the goals and peace you’re seeking. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 9 years of experience supporting individuals and couples in Georgia and Florida. Over that time, I’ve walked alongside clients through grief, anxiety, stress, and major life changes, helping them find clarity, resilience, and hope.

Hello! I'm Courtney, a licensed marriage and family therapist and certified sex therapist. I've been practicing post grad for 18 years and 20 years including internship training. I've been providing sex therapy for the majority of this time as well as train and supervise other sex therapists in training. My approach is direct and I don't often sugar coat things. If I see or hear something of importance or relevance, I am going to mention it to see if this something we need further explore together. I'm trained as a systems therapist and often describe myself as "an engineer for humans and relationships." I'm trained to identify and observe patterns in clients and their relationships and help them create change by changing the patterns and then experience a paradigm or mindset shift. As systems therapist, I am not often gathering a bunch of historical information at the start of our work. At times, this information is not always needed, and when it is, we can discuss it down the road. Even with my trauma modalities, I don't often have clients retell all of their traumas; instead, we focus on what is not working for them and address the traumas that are unprocessed or unresolved. Due to insurance limitations, I am only able to see couples, relational or family clients at a self pay rate.

After a successful career in law, I transitioned into mental health practice over 11 years ago, driven by a deep commitment to helping people navigate life's challenges in a safe non-judgmental place. If you are reading this you may be experiencing anxiety or depression either as a lifelong condition or as a result of some stressor either at home or at work. You may feel " stuck" and concerned about not reaching your goals in life. You may be drinking too much and want to stop. Clients often come to therapy simply because they are troubled by something that they need to bounce off someone. Change can be difficult. Here's the good news. You have just taken the hardest step. By acknowledging the need for change in your life and doing something about it you are well on your way to achieving that change. It may be just one or two sessions or it may take somewhat longer but either way I look forward to joining you on your journey.

Hi, I’m Sandra Smith, a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I specialize in supporting adults navigating anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, generational trauma, life transitions, and the unique challenges that come with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My approach is simple: create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can share your story, at your own pace, in your own way. I believe healing happens when we feel truly heard and understood. In our sessions, I take a collaborative, client-centered approach. That means I listen deeply, help you identify areas of growth, and together we’ll set meaningful, personalized goals that support healing, empowerment, and lasting positive change. I do this work because: - I come from a Caribbean background and have seen firsthand the impact of generational trauma. - I have a child with autism, which fuels my passion for advocating and providing mental health support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—a group often overlooked in the mental health world. - My strong background in crisis counseling and intervention taught me how resilient people truly are, even in their hardest moments. But outside of my professional role, I’m a regular person too! In my free time, you’ll find me crocheting, reading, cooking, spending time with family, or playing with my cats 🐾 Henry and Chuck. I believe life is about balance, and I encourage my clients to discover the small joys that keep them grounded. At the core, I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and live their best life. If you’re ready to take that step, I’d be honored to walk alongside you in your journey.

I possess a longstanding interest in mental health and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. Over the years, I have collaborated with clients to improve their well-being in a variety of settings. My experience includes work at a hospital Emergency Department, a hospital psychiatric unit, community organizations, and a mental health agency. I have served individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and those experiencing homelessness and hopelessness. Additionally, I have provided individual and group therapy in clinical settings. Counseling Philosophy In my counseling practice, I believe successful results come through collaboration and intentional effort. The client, as the expert in their own life, takes an active role in treatment by investing their time. Together, we set goals and ensure the process continues to move forward. Empowering clients by fostering self-awareness and resilience is central to my approach, as is making sure each person feels heard, understood, and supported throughout their journey. Commitment to Client Autonomy What sets my counseling style apart is my commitment to respecting my client's autonomy. For instance, I once worked with a client who struggled with anxiety and self-doubt. Through a collaborative approach, we identified the client's strengths and developed practical coping strategies. As the client worked through the process, they regained the confidence they once had and began taking steps toward their desired outcomes. This experience reinforced the value of a supportive, empowering therapeutic alliance. In every interaction, always aiming for the best possible results and lasting change.

“My goal is to work together to create positive change by offering a safe and warm environment for clients to learn, heal, and grow.” Whether searching for a counselor for yourself or your child, I enjoy working with clients of all ages and considers it a privilege to journey beside each client as they experience life transitions, anxiety, OCD, relationship issues, school related issues or learning differences, or traumatic experiences. My philosophy is strength-based, whether working with a child who is struggling emotionally and may benefit from play therapy or an adult who prefers to work collaboratively through a cognitive-behavioral approach or a trauma focused approach. I also has specific, advanced training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) from EMDRIA, providing an evidenced-based framework to help individuals experience healing from traumatic events.

I love helping people and I am so excited for you that you are considering engaging in services! I believe in an integrative approach to therapy which means focusing on the whole person rather than one problematic behavior which is most often only a symptom of underlying issues. In order to most effectively address your emotional or mental well-being we must also address your physical, biological, social, and psychological functioning. If you are ready to make changes to allow you to more fully enjoy your life then I am eager to assist you towards your goals.

Positive change is achievable when you have a supportive and understanding guide. Life can bring uncertainty, stress, and obstacles that feel overwhelming, and seeking help is often the first step toward clarity and growth. With over 25 years of experience in the counseling field and as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I have helped adolescents and adults navigate a wide range of challenges, build resilience, and move toward more fulfilling and balanced lives. In therapy, I work collaboratively with clients to address issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, and relationship difficulties. Using a mix of evidence-based strategies, active listening, education, and practical skill-building, I help clients identify goals, overcome barriers, and take meaningful steps toward personal growth. I view mental health as deeply connected to every aspect of life, from relationships to work to self-esteem. When challenges arise whether in behavior, emotions, or interpersonal connections I aim to provide a space for reflection, healing, and empowerment. Seeking support can feel intimidating, but it is also a courageous step toward transformation. Every journey begins with a single step, let’s take it together.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Georgia rather than a city like Atlanta?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Georgia from Athens to Savannah! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Georgia.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Older Adults?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Older Adults, is filtering therapists in Georgia that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
