Empowering

In my 18 years of work with clients, I have worked with severely mentally ill populations, the addicted (both inpatient and outpatient settings), grief stricken, trauma affected and those just wanting an improved emotional life.

I have extensive experience with working with addictions, and I truly enjoy helping those who have experienced trauma find a safe place and move towards thriving again.

We all have life challenges at some point in our lives, whether at a point of transition or loss, but sometimes just desiring greater self-reflection. I love helping to facilitate adaptations or change.

First session

I would like to know who you are, the experiences that have shaped this and who you want to be. Please share your story with me.

Strengths

I have extensive experience with working with addictions, and I truly enjoy helping those who have experienced trauma find a safe place and move towards thriving again. Whether you suffer from anxiety or depression, we will work together to lessen the impact on enjoying life and functioning well. I’ve been using CBT in my practice for the past 18 years. It’s helped dozens of clients challenge recurring thoughts and manage their anxiety. We’ll use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact with one another. We’ll then use that knowledge to change your thinking patterns, which will help you lead a more relaxed and less stressful life.

Ideal clients

Those willing to tell their story and open to thinking and feeling a different way than when they first walk in the door. We can jointly figure out the rest. Note: I will no longer be conducting couples counselling via telehealth, but I will be taking on new couples for sessions in person in my Brunswick office.

Treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

After we get to know each other, I focus on thoughts (CBT), emotions (EFT), and body sensations (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy). From there, we formulate an approach an some attainable goals uniquely chosen for you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

We explore how your thoughts and beliefs affect and interact with the issues you are dealing with.

Somatic

What you feel in your body affects your emotions and ultimately your thoughts as well.

Couples Counseling

I have been trained in the Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy (PACT) that includes psychoeducation and skills-building techniques. But will only be accepting Couples Counselling clients in person at my office in Brunswick GA.

Very good to help map out a solution to general anxiety and dread. "Life-fixing" mindset. Also knowledgeable about the science so if you like learning about psychology would be a great therapist.

A session with Ricardo feels like a conversation with an old friend. I never feel rushed or judged. Each visit builds on the last, with steady progress and new things to focus on.

Dr. Villalobos is always awesome with his words and really guides you to think differently and have different perspective. He’s very good at giving solutions to issues and examples to follow. He keeps is light hearted but can be serious when need be.
