LPC, 40 years of experience
Hello! My name is Patricia, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I have over 40 years of professional experience in therapeutic settings! I have provided therapy in a variety of settings that include outpatient behavioral health, inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations, community-based residential programs, and now through online services! You can see I have had an array of experiences over the years that have provided me great understanding of mental and emotional health! My view on life is to keep one's eyes on the windshield with only glances in the rearview mirror so one can move forward to the good that lies ahead, not limited by the negative past! I believe in the quote, "You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending!" C.S. Lewis
In our first session together, we will start with a brief introduction, review a brief history, and then dive into current challenges and concerns. This will help guide us in developing goals to work on in follow-up sessions. It's helpful to know where you want to go in life! I would like to now review the Telehealth Etiquette to provide the best session we can have! Remember, privacy means you want to be in a location that is confidential and private with limited noise interference. Also, you are in your home, so be comfortable; however, be dressed. This is a professional relationship (i.e., no nightgowns, etc). Remember, with online connections, there are advantages and disadvantages. Be flexible! Circumstances can arise, such as power outages, loss of WIFI, and unexpected emergencies. Any interruptions in our time, I will do my best to send a chat message or email to notify you. And I request the same. Should you run late or need to cancel, be sure to let me know through the chat portal! There are fees for no-show scheduled appointments.
I am a Therapist who prays! I believe in the power of prayer. I focus on the Overall Wellness in life, which is about having Balance. My goal is to assist you in developing and achieving a balance in each of the following environments in life: Social, Intellectual, Occupational, Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, and Environmental. I find most people get out of balance by focusing on one area over another. I believe focusing on seeking Balance in each of these areas produces a more solid, contented life!
I work with the adult population, which has been the majority of my experience and education. I see the goal of therapy, besides reducing troubling symptoms, is also about improving our functioning while enhancing our personal growth and self-care! To benefit the most out of sessions, the following therapy objectives are suggested: 1-Be Honest, 2-Keep it simple (don't try to focus on everything at once). 3-Be open to suggestions and change, 4- Read and follow up if needed on resources provided. Therapy may not change the circumstances around you, but it can change You in managing those circumstances! It has been said that storms can knock us off course and lead us in the wrong direction without a compass. What is a compass for life? It’s what you stand for: your values, principles, and goals. Life is a voyage. Focus on developing strong principles and goals that will lead you through life’s inevitable storms!
I have been using CBT for many years and find it the most helpful in achieving change. A change in your thoughts causes a change in your emotions, which changes your behavior, changing your life! I found a wonderful quote that explains this: "You can't change your destiny overnight, but you can change your direction overnight. That shift is what leads to lasting transformation!"
I am certified as a Christian Counselor. Over the years I have had times which I used my faith and Christian knowledge in therapy when it is requested.

I enjoy how comfortable I was, once the session started. Patricia Gibson has a warm and humorous way and makes her clients relax and feel comfortable about opening up.
