Hello! My name’s Matt, nice to meet you! I’ve been working in the mental health field since 2007, and, despite initially being licensed in another state, I returned to New Jersey, where I began working as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) about ten years ago. I soon settled into the role of clinical therapist, being recognized as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) by the National Board of Certified Counselors, with a tendency to work with those coping with, anxiety, depression, or a combination of the two. (Although I have worked with many others with different concerns, this is the way things have been for years.) Not too long after the quarantine began, I left the group I had been working with to form a private practice. Here, I have the ability to meet with and focus on my clients, providing each with the attention they deserve. One of the primary purposes of coming to therapy is to be heard. I am here to listen. Not just listen, though! We work together to come up with a solution to the problem or issue you are working through. As we discuss what has and hasn’t worked for you in the past, we learn to tell the difference between a healthy, productive way to cope and a less-than-desirable way to deal with your problem.

Hi there, I am Albert. Do you feel that specific life events have had a great impact on how you are managing and functioning daily? I am a clinician who believes that the past influences the present and future and if trauma has been a part of the human experience the impact on human functioning is even greater. It is my goal to create a safe and caring counseling atmosphere and setting so that the individual feels safe to explore the effect of trauma or any life event(s) that have impacted their life. Clients are encouraged to explore and engage in new aspects of themselves; finding new abilities which increase their positive daily functioning by increasing their living tool kit with new creative and important tools. I utilize evidence-based modalities to address the unique and specific needs of each client and I do so from a trauma-informed perspective. I provide long-term psychotherapy; I also work with clients doing short-term solution-focused therapy that is goal-specific. I completed my master's in counseling in 2005 from New Jersey City University. From 2005 to 2010 I was an associate counselor and upon completion of my supervision hours became a Licensed Practicing Counselor in 2010. I have had experience working in hospitals, outpatient clinics, community outreach and providing in-home therapy services for individuals and families. I have worked treating depression, anxiety, behavior problems, ADHD and issues related to gender identity as well as issues facing couples.

Hello, I'm Adam. Do you feel that your past or present internal and external experiences are holding you back from experiencing what you truly want to feel in your life? Do you feel that you will never be able to live the life you want to live if you continue to let your feelings and thoughts be the narrator of your life? If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, the therapy approach I use may be what you need. You may not see it now, but you demonstrate the courage, compassion, and ability to move forward in your life even with the most difficult challenges that life has or is currently bringing to you. You could live the life you want to live and gain the ability to write out the rest of your life the way you want. I empower and help guide individuals to be "psychologically flexible". I love incorporating modalities such as Acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and trauma-informed approaches to help give you the opportunity to win the struggles that you have with yourself every day. Whether that be past or present trauma experiences, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, self-esteem issues, ADHD, personality disorders, OCD, or relationship issues. Together, we can identify and explore what it is that is causing you psychological pain and learn what skills/strategies will help provide you with the ability to not let life struggles/stressors cause you distress.

Hi. I'm Steve. Do you ever wonder why, no matter how many different things you've tried, you fall back into old behaviors that hurt you and/or those you love? Do you wonder why your emotions take over and leave you feeling incapable or overwhelmed? Do your emotions get in the way of effectively communicating when it matters the most? We all face questions like this, and the most fulfilling part of my work is helping people like you find answers to those questions. I don’t have any “one-size-fits-all” solutions, but together we will work to identify what drives your responses and what you can do to make lasting changes. We will work to help you anticipate and prevent issues before they appear, to feel emotional intensity rising and calm it down, and to exit stressful situations before doing or saying something you’ll regret. I don’t believe that our worst moments define us. I DO believe that each of us is capable of overcoming past struggles and finding a new path. I look forward to working with you as you try to find yours.

When we experience loss, unwanted change, or trauma it can shake our foundations and lead to pain, confusion, and heartache. While we can't prevent life from happening or undo what we've been through, my practice is based on a deeply held belief in the ability for all of us to heal and resume living with meaning and purpose. Recognizing where you're feeling blocked, stuck, or hurt will inform where we focus our efforts. Granting ourselves full permission to feel and express the depth of our feelings is instrumental to healing and growth. My role is to bear witness to your experience while offering support and encouragement as you recognize and process your feelings. Through curiosity, presence, and attunement I seek to facilitate individual's getting back to living through effectively addressing, expelling, and moving past what has caused pain. Owning how we feel without asking for permission, learning how to internally validate ourselves, and developing self regulation strategies will help when we experience intense challenges. We can learn to change our narratives and work towards unconditional self love and acceptance. Please trust yourself and your wisdom when doing healing work.

"True success is the predictable result of hard work, patience, sacrifice & learning put into practice everyday." - Unknown Hey there! Thank you for sliding on past my profile and the above quote is essential to not only my mindset in how I approach everyday as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) but also how I want to assist in creating a space for my clients. I am currently based in Pennsylvania & have over 10 years of experience working with an array of clients. I have helped many from young adults to older adults take a deep dive within themselves to challenge thoughts, perspectives and beliefs that create a mental and emotional limitation on becoming a more empowered and improved version of themselves. My goal is to respectfully challenge and guide clientele to look within themselves since they are the best expert on their own life and choices so that they can discover the innate skills and abilities that can take them to higher heights within their situations and lives.

I’m Jeffrey, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been providing virtual psychotherapy to individuals across New Jersey for the past nine years. I specialize in supporting young adults, ages 18 to 35, who feel weighed down by constant worry, racing thoughts, overthinking, or the urge to seek reassurance. Additional areas of interest include helping young adult men break free from the chains of pornography addiction. And, supporting individuals living with Irritable Bowel Diseases (I have lived experience in this area). Many of the people I work with struggle with fears that feel hard to control, find themselves caught in repetitive thoughts or behaviors, or feel tense, restless, and unable to relax. These experiences can be exhausting and isolating, especially during a time of life already filled with transitions and expectations. In our sessions, you’ll find a safe, understanding space to explore what you’re going through. Together, we’ll make sense of your experiences and develop practical strategies to ease anxiety, quiet the mind, and build confidence in facing life’s challenges. My goal is to help you move forward feeling calmer, more grounded, and more hopeful about your future.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by New Jersey rather than a city like Newark?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New Jersey from Jersey City to Paterson! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New Jersey.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
