Greetings, my name is John Luke. I am a licensed clinical social worker and specialize in helping people to effectively manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns using cognitive behavioral techniques. I have worked with a range of populations, nearly all ages, and also have experience with addiction treatment and life-coaching. I work with people to develop insight into the source of their problems, how their core beliefs about the world might be hindering their progress, and focus on their natural strengths to overcome those barriers with practical skills that generate sustainable change. Some of my other specialties include short-term, solution-focused therapy; cognitive behavioral therapy techniques; psychodynamic approaches; and marital counseling.
Some of the problems I am particularly keen on solving with my clients include issues with self-image and confidence; dating and relationships; boundary-setting and assertive communication; as well as general anxiety management; and learning to identify and productively resolve emotional unrest. I am also very experienced in cognitive restructuring, which is just a fancy way of saying helping to change the way a person thinks about the world and their place in it. I also enjoy aiding people in goal setting and identification, meaning-making, and navigating family conflicts. If you feel any of this could be helpful or useful to you, please do not hesitate to reach out!
(Note: I do work with couples, but only on a cash-pay basis. Also, I only work with ages 18+)
I am a retired Army paratrooper. I understand the nature of how identities change or are impacted throughout ones life. I owned a tree business as a tree climber (for a brief period). I worked in the public school system for 7-years as an educator.
As a clinician, I served students from all over the state of Maryland in a level-5 school; I served minors, adolescents and adults facing suicide and crises, human trafficking, and substance use and sexual addiction, and I serve marriage and couples.
Over the years, my experiences have included people living on the streets of Baltimore City to the fast paced life of the DC-MD-VA (DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia) area. It has included the misunderstood educators during the stressful school year and decompressing summers to the misunderstood law enforcement, military, veteran, and first responders faithfully serving the public without question each day and night.
Two core values of mine are respect and dignity.
I believe that the greatest independent-person is a person that knows how to be dependent on others in the right way, with the right amount of intensity, and for the right amount of time. An independent-person knows where dependence on someone else makes them stronger, safer, wiser, lovelier and more successful in life and in relationships.

In December 2025, I earned my Clinical license in Maryland (LCSW-C). I like talking with people--but more importantly, listening to people. To me, therapy is a block of time. I approach therapy using multiple modalities. I believe in the mind-body connection and integrate mindfulness and body-based interventions where needed, including a focus on the physiology of stress and emotions. I use a wholistic approach to therapy, exploring all your identities, ambivalences, and values, and believe that understanding your upbringing and cultures are critical to how you cope and relate to the world and yourself in it.

I’m a therapist who believes deeply in the power of connection, compassion, and honest conversation. Over the past 30 years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people facing trauma, ADHD, grief, and the many transitions that come with aging, and I approach each person’s story with respect and genuine curiosity. I work gently and collaboratively, creating a space where you can slow down, breathe, and explore what you’re carrying without judgment. As someone who has always shared my life with animals, I understand how grounding and healing those bonds can be, and I welcome clients who find comfort and strength in them too. My goal is to help you feel supported, understood, and empowered as you move toward a life that feels more steady, meaningful, and hopeful.
Outside of my work, I’m someone who finds joy in simple, grounding things. I love reading, spending time in nature, and making enthusiastic—but often less‑than‑successful—attempts at gardening. Building LEGO is one of my favorite mindfulness activities, and I enjoy attending local outdoor festivals, practicing quiet moments of mindfulness, and spending time with my pets, family, and friends. These parts of my life help me stay balanced, present, and connected, and they often inform the warmth and authenticity I bring into the therapy room.
I am yoruba native from Lagos, Nigeria, with vast experience (8 years) working with children, adolescents, adults and families both in my profession and personal life in different capacities and environment. This includes, hospital, schools, private practice, Office of Public Defender, Forensic Services, social services etc. I have a passion to impact individuals and recognizes the importance of collaborating with different systems in order to spark and support change in individuals. environment plays a major role in determining who an individual becomes. I am also a board approved supervisor, and I have supervised MSW candidates that they embark on their journey into the field of Social Work.

I have lived a life much like most of my clients. I have experienced hardships and achievements, sadness and joy, and disappointment in myself and in others. For most of my life, I have been lucky enough to somehow “figure it out” on my own. At one point in my life, I made a commitment to myself that no one should have to “figure it out” on their own. We all need to have someone who is committed to helping us out when we are at our most vulnerable.
