Hello and Welcome! I am Tammy Jones, a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Maryland. I have been in the helping profession for many years and thoroughly enjoy working with and helping others. I aspire to ensure that clients feel safe in the therapeutic environment and that they are comfortable talking with me about their personal selves. I will meet the client where they are in their journey and strive towards providing them with the tools to navigate through their depression, anxiety, and grief and loss, so they may improve their individual functioning. Therapy can stimulate personal development in areas that you wish to grow. I am willing and ready to listen when you are ready to begin your journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our work together we will focus on identifying your challenges and establishing your goals. We want to look towards the future - where would you like to be in 3 months, 6 months, even a year from now? We will develop objectives to meet those goals and then tasks for you and I so that you walk away from our first session feeling a sense of accomplishment and pride that you have taken the first step to an improved way of thinking, feeling, and belonging. We will hold each other accountable as we work together and we will be genuine, honest, and respectful of one another.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Since I was a young child, my mother molded me into a giving, caring, and genuine person who strives to help others, no matter what their situation may be. I grew up in a very large family; my siblings and I continue to show love and admiration for one another. I know the value of self worth, hard work, self love, tough love, and relationships. I have experienced tragedy, pain, and emotional distress; and from those experiences I learned a great deal about myself, other people, and the world. My core beliefs are solid, my mindset is open. I am truly present when I am with another person; they have my full attention.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I get fulfillment from working with clients who are experiencing loss, trauma, anxiety, and depression. I want to help you grow and thrive as you navigate through life's challenges. When you are ready to begin our work together and release the stress and negative thoughts, schedule our first session so we can begin to work towards you feeling better. I cannot wait to meet you!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I would use motivational interviewing and ask open ended questions in an effort to build rapport with the client. I would educate the client that our thoughts and behaviors influence our actions; and then I would incorporate educating the client about coping skills to regulate their emotions. In further sessions I would assist the client with unlearning their negative thoughts and behaviors and help them to learn healthy patterns of thoughts and positive behaviors. The client would learn how to respond in a healthier way to anxiety, stress, and negative thoughts.

Psychoeducation

I would teach clients different thought patterns including cognitive distortions and how the thoughts and thinking affects our decision making and our daily lives. I would provide written material in the form of tools, homework tasks, guides, and articles or chapters of self help books so the client may learn information and skills individually.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I would use this therapy to teach distress tolerance skills to the client and would give them homework tasks to complete to reinforce the skills that were taught; we would review the assignment during the beginning of the next session. I would use mindfulness activities and encourage self care.
