Hello, I'm Nazli Fouladi. I'm not just a clinical psychologist; I'm genuinely committed to helping you navigate life's challenges through mental well-being and emotional balance. I have a profound passion for delving into the complexities of the human mind and assisting others in their journey towards healing, personal growth, and living their best life. My approach is built on empathy, trust, and a strong belief in each person's capacity for positive change, all within a non-directive therapeutic space. I value a holistic approach to mental health including the mind, body and spirit. In addition to my doctoral studies in clinical psychology, I also have a postgraduate background in lifespan developmental psychology. That’s why I’m particularly aware of the difficulties that may come up during the intricate stages and events of life. For example, going off to college, marriage, parenthood, work-life balance caring for older loved ones, generational events/trauma etc. My academic journey includes a Doctoral and Masters training in clinical psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology which I earned in the year 2009. Before that, I received a Master’s degree in lifespan Developmental Psychology from Johns Hopkins University. I also have a graduate background in the Fine Arts and Biology. I have been a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Maryland since 2013 and finished my doctoral internship at George Mason Counseling and Psychological Services. Prior to that, I received two years of supervised practicum training at two clinical private practice facilities where I provided assessment, testing and psychotherapy for individuals from various age groups and ethnicities. For example, I have worked with individuals suffering from trauma/ crisis management, depression, general/specific anxiety, Traumatic Brain Injury, various neurological disorders, schizophrenia, phobia, eating, bipolar, body dysmorphic and personality disorders. Besides English, I am also fluent in Farsi.
During the intake I will be asking you to share the pressing issues that have caused you to seek therapy at this point and how you have been dealing with these issues on your own. We will also talk about your personal story, family history, education, work and general health and anything else that you feel is important for me to know. It will give us a chance to get to know each other and see if we will be a good fit for working together.
As an immigrant at a young age, I have first-hand experience that has provided me with a deep understanding of the emotional and psychological challenges that immigrants especially children often face. Understanding the unique norms, values, and belief systems of individuals and their family dynamics is vital for providing effective and sensitive mental health. Some challenges can include anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and even adjustment disorders. Being aware of the potential signs and symptoms can help in early detection and intervention. Untreated mental health issues for individuals and within families can have a lasting effect on both individuals and the family system as a whole. They can lead to strained family relationships, communication breakdowns, and a reduced capacity to support one another through life challenges. My approach highlights taking a holistic approach to mental health which considers not only individual but also family dynamics and the broader factors that influence well-being. I'm here to collaborate with you on your path to health and resilience. Remember, you're not alone, and together, we can work towards your unique goals.
I am focused on the treatment of depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, adjustment, immigration, trauma, self esteem, empowerment, career counseling, health, aging, empowerment and spirituality. I am also able to communicate with Farsi speaking clients.
The foundation of my work is always unconditional positive regard and I have an integrative treatment approach which is developed for each client's unique needs. For example the treatment might include techniques form modalities such as person centered, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness or the use of art. As we move towards understanding and growth there will be adjustments to the treatment with open collaborative discussions about the process of therapy.
