I grew up in South Africa and moved to the US in my mid twenties. After graduation (GSU, Atlanta) and getting licensed in GA (LPC in 1999) I partnered with several churches in Atlanta, providing Christian counseling services. I then worked full time on a church staff (providing Pastoral Counseling) before going into private practice. I have been working as a therapist in private practice since 2010 focused on individual adult issues (depression, anxiety, relationship issues, etc).
We will assess your current "symptoms" and then work towards "resiliency" by resolving trauma in the system (using EMDR) and working to become "self-led" (IFS), incorporating grounding and embodiment exercises.
A recent review on Zocdoc: Richard is very intuitive and intentional in his approach. His presence is very inviting and calming. He specifically helps you work through your trauma at a deep level. He’s well informed and constantly learning and refining his methods and thought process. I can’t recommend him enough!
I specialize in helping clients who struggle in relationships with being dominated and "people please" to survive (codependency). I work well with individuals who are self-motivated to heal, grow, and overcome life’s challenges. While I welcome clients from all faith backgrounds, I work well with those seeking a Christian perspective.
I specialize in helping individuals navigate emotional and behavioral challenges from a trauma-informed perspective. I have extensive training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and other therapeutic modalities that work directly with the brain and body to shift negative beliefs and process overwhelming experiences. This approach helps release emotional and physical tension, creating lasting change.
