Hi! I am Luis Gonzales, a licensed mental health counselor and certified rehabilitation counselor working out of the Tampa area. Having gone through a tragic life altering experience at a young age, I know what it’s like to feel lost and hopeless about the future. When I was 21 I suffered a spinal cord injury that left me paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. Through my journey of recovery I learned firsthand, just how much our thoughts and emotions can become our biggest obstacles in life.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I can help you learn the ABCs of how our thoughts affect our feelings. We will work together to identify those irrational beliefs that cause us pain and stress so you can minimize dysfunctional feelings and get back to living a meaningful and fulfilling life. One of the most important aspect of counseling is the therapeutic relationship. On our first session, we will discuss what is that you want out of therapy and how we can work together to achieve your therapeutic goals.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I provide a safe environment where we can explore and process your thoughts and emotions. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic approach and making sure that the therapeutic plan is tailored especially to the individual.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I’ve been working with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, trauma, depression, chronic health issues, substance abuse and ADHD for the past decade directly through the Hillsborough County system and through my private practice. My experience extends to providing career counseling services through the Department of Education.
