I am a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) now practicing in Michigan. I have over 11 years of independent nurse practitioner experience working in Montana and Colorado. Prior to that, I was an ER and ICU Registered Nurse. I am thrilled to offer my telepsychiatry services throughout Michigan and hope to open an in-person office outside of Traverse City, MI down the road. I strive to deliver high-quality evidence based telepsychiatry services that utilize the most recent advancement in psychiatry. I treat adults (18-75) who are struggling with depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, women specific mental health issues, grief, divorce, college, career challenges and/or other life stressors. I am passionate about providing patient-centered care and building a therapeutic relationship with my patients. I practice using a holistic approach with supportive therapeutic modalities, along with prescribing psychotropic medications, if warranted. Don't wait any longer. Please reach out and book an appointment with me today so I can help you to start living your best life!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first appointment is a full diagnostic evaluation with a lot of information gathering, assessment, and screening. First appointments are generally 60-90 minutes long and will result in a diagnostic impression and proposed treatment plan. I work with my patients to come up with a plan that works for them. While medications can be very helpful, not everyone is comfortable with taking a psychotropic medication. I discuss a variety of options along side of education of the medication (if warranted) to ensure the patient is comfortable with the treatment plan.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked independently (without a collaborating MD) for the past 10 years, I have made continuing educating a top priority so that I can provide the best current practices patient centered care. I am culturally sensitive and have worked with many LGBTQIA patients over the years. I feel my greatest strength is in listening with compassion and then designing a reasonable, safe, evidence based treatment plan that is manageable.

My treatment methods

Compassion Focused

Along side medication management (if warranted), I utilize compassion focused therapy (CFT) tools to help patients learn to explore their emotional patterns and how to differentiate from their inner self critic in order to be more self compassionate. This relates to those patients who struggle with a great deal of shame, self criticism and self blame. I use CFT as another tool to help patients foster self kindness.

Integrative

I use a variety of Integrative therapeutic approaches (along side of medication management) for a personalized holistic treatment outcome. This generally includes discussion of diet, exercise, self care, sleep, relationships, substance use, supportive system and genetic risk factors that can influence mental health disorders.

Mind-body approach

I utilize the mind body approach in every appointment as a way of recognizing the interconnectedness of mental and physical health and well being.

Motivational Interviewing

I use motivational interviewing (MI) techniques in all sessions to enhance patient engagement (along side medication management) and to facilitate behavior change. While using empathy, my goal is develop a trusting and therapeutic alliance/relationship with my patient so we can work on their resistance to change, self efficacy, motivations, and develop a plan to further avoid ambivalence that often deters growth and change.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I use solution focused brief treatment along with medication management to help my patient focus on goal setting and be more present in their approach to creative positive change. This supportive tool helps to identify a patient's strengths, abilities, and past successes to progress towards current goals.
