Are you feeling sad, hopeless or living in continuous fear of the future? You may struggle with maintaining or engaging in various relationships? You are aware there is a better, easier path forward; however, the road of least resistance often feels like your true companion, filling your day with the expected. Your inner fears may be holding you back. We cannot control the emotions or outcomes of others, but we can learn to forgive ourselves and be more objective of others' choices. Welcome to your therapy journey! I am Karen Poindexter, and I earned my master's degree in social work from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. I believe that each person is unique and has a story, yet often barriers in life have impacted the ability to tell the story. I utilize a strength-based perspective and view counseling as my calling to assist individuals with regaining balance in their lives. I incorporate Christianity and faith-based principles into counseling. The ability to guide someone on the path of decreasing depression, anxiety, conflict or merely not feeling heard, is an honor that I do not take likely. Sometimes it can feel uncertain, scary even, to take the step to begin therapy. However, you are so worth it, and I look forward to connecting with you soon.

Welcome to my profile! Thank you for taking that step of courage to seek the healing you desire! I am Delores Mayen, LCSW/LMSW-C. I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas and Michigan, who provides Christian faith-based therapy to adults who face challenges with anxiety, childhood-trauma, adult trauma, abuse, relationship building and just the currents involved when navigating through this thing called life. I also work with young adults, single-mothers, women with families, and men/women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. I have experience working in the mental health field for over 10 years and have been providing clinical therapy services for 6 years. I am passionate about this field because I believe that everyone deserves healing in all areas of their life and that a diagnosis or challenge does not define a person. I offer faith-based Christian therapy to all of my potential clients, as I found that this is the most beneficial method of treatment I have ever worked with in practice. I have worked with clients who have made remarkable progress and found hope when engaging in this faith-based practice. I will be more than happy to work with anyone who is open to trying faith-based Christian therapy, as I can guarantee they will not be disappointed. Spirituality from diverse religious beliefs and practices from around the world, are widely accepted when addressing healing in the mental health field. However, it is unfortunate that Christian-faith based therapy, is a priceless gem that has been overlooked in the healing sector of mental health. I am here, as a clinician to offer that gem for the benefit and wellness of potential clients, who would like to experience everlasting healing. Please feel free to reach out and schedule to speak with me to learn more about the services I provide. Delores Mayen, LMSW/LCSW

I love to work with people who are willing to think, to consider new ideas, to examine themselves honestly, and to try new behaviors. This is exciting! I love people who allow me the occasional moment of silence so that I can prepare a question that fits their unique personality and situation. I love working with people who are excited about working on things throughout the week and will give me honest feedback as to how effective that idea was for them. And i find it very enjoyable to work with someone who can articulate what they believe their issue is and what they think they need to do to overcome (either by increasing or decreasing a behavior) their problem (even if it takes a few sessions to get there). it's great to work with people who will do their best to give a new idea a shot. All that being said, everyone has their up days and down days. We wouldn't be human if we didn't. Being willing to let me walk alongside of them on those days, as well as the good days, humbles me because of their trust. Therapy can be work, and change doesn't fall into our laps. But it is possible, and in many cases, in order to experience abundant living, very necessary. Finally, I really enjoy working with people who, even as they identify a tendency, a personality trait, a reaction, or a thought process that may be related to childhood or adult trauma or abuse, will also look for ways to overcome its impact on them instead of being content to sit in its shade and let themselves be bested by it.

Although I’m not currently working in a school setting, the knowledge I gained helps me guide and empower parents to advocate for their children within the school system. I have a deep passion for working with children and teens who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, autism, and ADHD. I understand that each child and teen is unique, and I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs, providing a safe space for them to express themselves and develop the tools to manage their emotions and challenges.

Hello potential client! You are hurting in some way if you are here reading this. Maybe you feel like you are getting more and more stressed out and just one more stressor would be too much for you to handle. Maybe you worry all the time about everything and can't stop. Maybe you are sad all the time and don't enjoy doing things that used to be fun. Maybe you are feeling helpless or hopeless about what to do. Maybe you have been through a traumatic experience or are grieving. Maybe you are thinking the way you have been using substances is causing you problems. You have tried your best to help yourself but nothing has worked the way you hoped it would. You don't know what to do but you do know you can't keep going the way you have been. This is where I come in! I help people who are ready to change for the better! My heart is for helping hurting people and I strive to treat all of my clients with the compassion and respect I believe they deserve. The most important part of positive change in a therapeutic relationship depends on just that - the relationship between the therapist and the client. I also use a variety of resources to help my clients. These include evidence-based types of therapy, worksheets and measurements. I also offer Christian counseling to those who are interested and am also happy to work with people of other spiritual beliefs. I offer free consultation calls so we can both decide if working together would be a good fit for both of us. I look forward to hearing from you if I sound like I would be your kind of therapist!

Whether there has been a significant loss, a life transition, relational conflict, or daily stressors, we all need support during difficult times. Sometimes, however, a trained professional can help navigate these challenges and assist in facilitating positive change. We aren’t always able to recognize the underlying cause of our discomfort or find ways to overcome life’s challenges. In a therapeutic setting, we will work together to discover healthier ways for you to deal with life’s struggles, make desired changes, improve relationships, and find inner healing. Seeking therapy can be viewed as an investment in yourself. Improving mental and emotional health is as important as one’s physical health. My role is to provide a safe space and come alongside you on your journey. I work with adolescents and adults and provide individual, couples, and family counseling services. I treat depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, (PTSD), relationship issues, parenting, behavioral concerns, and many other problems affecting how we feel and operate in the world.

My approach is holistic in nature, non-judgmental, empathetic, and compassionate. I walk along side you as we explore your thoughts and feelings, to help better understand yourself, and find ways to create healthy alternatives as you move forward. I know the stigma of seeing a mental health professional, but I also know that most of people that are in therapy seek treatment because they have to deal with people that refuse to seek treatment for themselves. Why filter by Michigan rather than a city like Detroit?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Michigan from Grand Rapids to Warren! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Michigan.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
