Jessica Mayfield-Ashwood
Hi! My name is Jessica Mayfield-Ashwood, founder of Take Flight Wellness and a clinically licensed social worker with 6 years of practice in the mental health field. I received my MSW degree from The University of Michigan and am a proud native of Detroit, Mi.
I help people feel seen, understood, and give them the foundational skills to manage stress.
My goal as a provider is to work alongside you as you rediscover yourself, the world around you, and implement helpful choices in your life.
First session
A first session will be us getting to know each other, setting goals, and assessing needs. Afterwards, sessions will be more in depth to target goals and explore mental and behavioral concerns. I use a combination of modalities that best fits the client at the time.
Strengths
My greatest strength as a provider is not only having the clinical knowledge of what client's experience but personal knowledge. I am able to relate to clients in various ways while combining my education and expertise to help clients identify and practice skills. I am very solution focused and tend to challenge my clients to try new practical approaches. I am also helpful with guiding clients towards understanding what they may be experiencing and identifying what tools could be helpful to navigate their experiences.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is one who is ready to commit regularly to sessions (at least 2-4x a month) and open to practicing suggested coping skills. I tend to work well with clients who deal with one or more of the following concerns: Perfectionism, imposter syndrome, work stress, family stress, childhood trauma, burnout, hyper-independence, codependency, lack of boundaries or rigid boundaries, parenting stress, and life transitions.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is a way to explore how our thoughts, feelings, and actions interact with each other. Many clients find this approach helpful because it reshapes perception of certain thoughts and feelings which in turn change our behaviors to be more positive.
Strength-Based
As a social worker, I love to include YOU first and focus on your strengths rather than deficits. We will build coping skills tailored to things you're naturally good at or familiar with.
Trauma-Informed Care
I have vast experience with trauma work and how trauma impacts not only our mind but our body. If there is a history of trauma, we will explore it with care and at a pace appropriate for you.
