I am a licensed clinical social worker in Florida, Wisconsin and in Michigan. I have an Associates Degree in Computer Programming and have Master's Degrees in Social Work and in Interdisciplinary Studies. I love to learn and find that translates to learning about people as well. What do people find challenging? What brings them joy? Peace? Excitement? How can I help people recapture these positive states and sustain them? I am also a credentialed minister. I find that many people struggle with how their faith and therapy intersect. By engaging in therapy are they denying their faith? Does it mean that they are lacking in belief if they utilize therapy services? I have the unique privilege of working with individuals from both the secular and the faith perspectives.
The first session is a review of paperwork completed, the practice policies and client and therapist expectations. The general goals for sessions are mutually established by the end of the first session.
I rely on cognitive behavioral therapy techniques because I feel strongly that what we think about influences our mood and our behavior. I also rely on mindfulness strategies to assist with symptom management. Together I find the two therapy modalities allow for individuals to have immediate relief and as they work to make changes that are long lasting.
As a therapist, I look for the good in people. What is working? How can that be expanded into areas where there is struggle? I enjoy celebrating successes and helping people to see their growth. Everyone has the capacity for growth. No matter how well we manage life, there are always areas where we can improve. We are all on a journey to do this life well. Sometimes we just need a little direction on how to get there.
Adults wanting to heal from past trauma in their lives.
