Hi! I am Dora Hudson, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Michigan as well as a Nationally Board-Certified Counselor. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Detroit Mercy with a focus on community, addiction, school, and career counseling and I have been practicing for sixteen plus years. I have assisted teens, young and older adults, and LGBTQIAs struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, career, and family issues. I strive to give you strategies on how to have more balance in your daily school/work/life stressors to ultimately help you to become a better version of yourselves. My person-centered approach helps with maintaining a good rapport with you while creating a holistic atmosphere for you to thrive in your goals.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Having worked with so many different types of people for the past 16 years, I've developed a tried-and-true playbook for helping you (a) identify the root cause of your challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with individuals and couples who are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or navigating major life transitions and want support in creating healthier patterns in their lives. Many of my clients are managing anxiety, relationship challenges, past trauma, burnout, or the stress of balancing family, work, and personal growth. I am especially well suited for people who are open to self-reflection and ready to learn practical tools that can help them improve communication, strengthen relationships, and build emotional resilience. My goal is to support clients who are motivated to better understand themselves and move toward a more balanced and meaningful life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my practice and in the schools, I have worked in for the past 16 years. CBT has assisted me in helping hundreds of students and young and older adults with how to challenge their intrusive and negative thought patterns and how to effectively manage their anxiety. Teach them how to become emotionally intelligent and self-aware by identifying and demystifying their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how this impacts their beliefs, attitudes, and mindsets. We will set goals and produce solutions and strategies to help you live a more fulfilling life.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I have been using Person-centered (Rogerian) in my practice to create a safe and empathetic environment for my clients and students I have worked with for the last 16 years. This helps clients build trust and helps me build congruence by "acting as a mirror of your feelings and thoughts". This helps clients "to feel understood and maintain an awareness and sensitivity" to their experiences and perspectives.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, evidence-based counseling approach that aims to help individuals explore and resolve ambivalence about change. It is particularly useful for individuals who are considering or struggling to make behavior changes, such as quitting smoking, drugs, alcohol, losing weight, or improving their mental health.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy is a form of talk therapy that aims to help individuals understand how their current behaviors and emotions are influenced by past experiences and unconscious thoughts, often by exploring recurring patterns in relationships and emotions to gain deeper self-awareness and insight into their issues; it is rooted in the theories of Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis, focusing on the interplay between conscious and unconscious mind.
