As a Christian therapist I believe in the integration of Biblical principles with evidence-based modalities. Much of my professional experience is working with individuals who have experienced trauma and the effects it continues to have in their present day lives. Together we will identify those negatively held beliefs then with truth rooted in both clinical insight and Biblical wisdom discover what is true about who you really are.

I graduated from UPenn 10+ years ago with a Master's in Social Work. I have experience working in almost every setting you could imagine.
I specialize in making people feel comfortable, safe, and validated. I specialize in treating my clients like they matter, are important & are worthy, no matter what they look like, sound like, or "seem" like. I'm also an expert in being a real human being and not a robot with automated responses who will "mhmm" you to death.
My "approach" is understanding that I can't expect you to expose the deepest, darkest, most vulnerable parts of yourself to me if I remain a complete stranger to you. In our sessions, I want you to feel like you're with one of your best friends who you can trust, laugh and ugly-cry with.
My only goal is to make you feel like you're not alone. Like you have someone in your corner who will fight for you, laugh with you, curse with you, and ugly-cry with you (I'm totally kidding, kinda, that part's negotiable).
Hi My name is Hilary Chentow. I am a licensed clinical social worker living in PA and practicing in PA, WA and DE. I use CBT, DBT, mindfulness, Polyvagal theory and Internal Family Systems and will share resources in abundance. I was a teacher before I made a midlife career change to become a therapist. I am not a one size fits all therapist. And I am ok with that. Right fit is important.

I have an LPC and an LMFT and have been seeing clients since 1996. I have extensive training in helping people who are going through or have experienced narcissistic abuse and any form of childhood trauma, this includes verbal and emotional abuse, family addictions, or any early childhood experience that would cause one to feel unsafe. I am also experienced in the treatment of anxiety, worry and mood concerns and work with addictions, obsessive compulsive behaviors and any poor coping skills or core beliefs that were developed in order to manage these stressors. I use practices primarily focused on somatic and cognitive therapy but also utilize acceptance commitment therapy, internal family systems, mindfulness and am solution focused. I use homework and assignments aimed at regulating the nervous system in order to repair the fight/flight/freeze response that is often stuck on due to a continuous history of a variety of life stressors (trauma). This trapped and stored trauma continues to trigger the nervous system to respond in ways where we continue to feel unsafe, even after the threats have passed. By working with the nervous system to release this trapped trauma and find safety, we can then have the opportunity to respond to the world differently.
I have 21 years of experience working with people struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, grief/loss, chronic pain/health conditions, complex trauma, relationship conflicts, and more. I offer an authentic, nonjudgmental space to process emotions, clarify goals, and develop a plan to achieve them. I believe humor is essential to healing, so plan to laugh a bit too!
