Liz Jones
Navigating through the obstacles and challenges in life can often feel overwhelming without support. I look to provide unconditional support and encouragement within the therapeutic setting to help you find the right skills to build confidence and mastery in order to overcome those challenges independently. As a licensed professional counselor, I specialize in supporting clients of transitional ages from adolescence through young adulthood, as well as adults and seniors. I utilize a dynamic approach to therapy with training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed therapy, and Mindfulness-centered approaches.
First session
I center the therapeutic experience on a safe and non-judgemental space to process and explore all experiences in life. Therapy can be a difficult endeavor for individuals so it is my goal to ensure optimal comfort in the therapeutic space.
Strengths
Therapy is a collaborative experience designed to focus on the goals set by the client. I work directly with the client to build their autonomy and independence. In therapy, we will work on facing those difficulties in life that serve as barriers for progress and success.
Ideal clients
Therapy reqiures a great deal of vulnerability and commitment which can be incredibly challenging. As a therapist, I do not expect a client to be fully sold on the process in the first few encounters and recognize the need for stepping outside of your comfort zone. Ideally, you show up with an open mind and some motivation to immerse yourself in the process.
Treatment methods
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a standard approach within my therapeutic scope of practice. It is an approach that I use to help client who experience challenges with intense emotions, self-harm behaviors, and persistent suicidal ideation. DBT is focused on four key components to help clients learn how to balance emotional dysregulation and learn to cope effectively without engaging in maladaptive behaviors.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is another evidence based approach that is vital in restructuring our thoughts and how our belief systems drive our behaviors and emotions. We work on learning to identify unhelpful thought patterns and learn to challenge negative core beliefs that impact our engagement in the world and the relationships we hold with ourselves and others.
