I am a Pennsylvania Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been in the counseling field for over 20 years, working with, teens, young adults and the elderly, who have issues ranging from anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD and Autism (ASD). I have also done extensive work with individuals and couples going through transitions and relationship issues. I also bring experience in the area of pastoral and spiritual counseling that many times is helpful to one’s mental health. I hold an MA in Theology and a Master’s degree in Divinity from Christ the King Seminary. I also hold an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from LaSalle University. I've been teaching teaching undergraduate courses in philosophy, theology and psychology at Gwynedd Mercy University as well s Holy Family University over the past 15 years. I bring to the counseling profession a wide variety of experiences, such as working in construction, high school teaching, high school coaching, youth ministry, college teaching, as well as over 20 years of experience in the corporate world. I am compassionate about helping people and try to gently guide them through life’s difficulties and obstacles that may impede their mental well-being and happiness. I'm approachable, relatable and have a deep desire to help others. I do enjoy my family, as well as writing, running and music when not helping others in the counseling field.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In the first session, I like to establish rapport with clients and get to know them as we establish a therapeutic relationship for counseling. Being trained in the family systems module, I like to delve into the client's background by doing a genogram. This helps me understand their family background and upbringing. I also invite clients to ask any questions of my background, too. After this, I like to understand why the client is seeking counseling and then try to pinpoint any specific issues that they are dealing with at this time. We then try to establish some specific goals that Clients want to work on in our counseling sessions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My biggest strengths that I bring to the therapy session is, not only my educational and theoretical background, but also a wide variety of life experiences. I come from a large family and have worked at a variety of jobs, such as being a high school teacher, a coach, a college professor, a business owner and a corporate executive, on top of having over 17 years of counseling experience. I work well with individuals who suffer from anxiety, depression, PTSD, as well as working with couples who struggle with their relationships. I also have worked with individuals who are just stuck in life, whether with their goals, jobs, relationships and the pursuit of happiness. My preference is to work with people from ages 18 to 80.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

. Ages 18 to 65, individuals and couples. I do work from a systemic module with clients, realizing the importance of each person's upbringing and family origins. I do like to review any specific issues that clients are dealing with at this stage in their life, whether it be anxiety, depression, anger issues and any specific behaviors they are currently dealing with as individuals or as a couple. I also try to establish the therapeutic relationship and try to make sure that there's a good match between the client and myself.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Client will learn how to recognize their triggers and manage their thinking and emotional responses in a more positive way, which will result in more productive and effective behavior. The result will be that the client will be in charge of of their behaviors and manage their conflicts better, on the way to becoming the best version of themselve.

Family Therapy

The therapy involves evaluating the current family system that one finds themselves in and also looks at the family system that they came from as a child. Many times there's an awareness of some of their present issues being a reflection on what they brought into their new family system that they learned from their childhood systems. Learning how family systems should look from a healthy stand point and trying to make positive changes in it, where all members of it will benefit and grow in positive ways.

Faith based therapy

Therapist will explore the areas of the client's own spiritual journey and help them guide their belief of a higher power in their life so that they feel connected with at this time in their life.

This is my first time speaking with a therapist. There’s been too much happening all at once, especially recently (loss, sickness, trauma), that I felt it was the necessary time to do so. I was very satisfied with Dr. King’s approach: authentic, direct, open-minded and solution oriented. It’s often difficult for me to open up to others and he was very encouraging yet understanding in offering helpful solutions to overcome my issues. Looking forward to our next session.
