I'm a big Star Wars fan (the original trilogy). I see therapy and self-growth as a kind of Jedi mind training. In the Empire Strikes Back, Yoda used the force to raise Luke's X-Wing out of the swamp. Luke said to Yoda, "I don't believe it." Yoda replied, "And that is why you fail." It's this. These kinds of negative beliefs and perceptions of ourselves and others that is often the source of our distress and the barrier to self-growth.
While we will not be magically learning how to lift objects off the ground, we can become more Jedi-like by learning and practicing how to be more mindful and aware. As we grow our awareness, we can step back and watch ourselves think and act instead of being caught up in our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We can then learn to undo the habits and let go of the negative self beliefs that are not serving us well.
Clearing the mind and being more present helps us more easily implement newly learned skills and strategies. In my practice, I work with clients with anxiety, ADHD, and executive function challenges. To help improvement and self-growth feel more manageable, we often focus on one small step at a time, breaking down concepts and practical strategies into small, manageable chunks, and work together to remove any resistance or barriers to putting helpful strategies in place.

I am dedicated to helping people heal holistically from past traumas, anxiety, depression, anger or relationship challenges. Often , I blend EMDR interventions with "parts work"/Internal Family Systems (IFS) interventions, which is useful when a client has parts of themselves that are fearful of trauma work. In addition, I teach people how to manage their thoughts and emotions using mindfulness, mind/body, meditation practices, and cognitive behavioral methods. For those who are interested in healing their mental health naturally through changing their life style habits, I have training in how proper nutrition, sleep and exercise can help improve one's brain health, and therefore improve their mental health.

Hi, I’m Sheena Burden, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I’m truly glad you’re here.
Reaching out for support takes courage, and I honor the step you’re taking. I bring both professionalism and a sense of humor into the room, because sometimes laughter really is the best coping skill .I’ve worked with teens, college students, and adults for the last 7 years. Some common concerns I have helped navigate are stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, and the big messy in-betweens that don’t necessarily always fit neatly into a diagnosis.
I became a Licensed Psychotherapist in 2001.
