New to Grow
I am a woman in her second half of life. I have raised three children,I have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. I have dogs and cats as pets and live in the country. I grew up in a military town and am an Army brat. I was also a Military Family Life Counselor in public schools working with children of military parents. I have a child currently serving in the US Navy. I also have a small garden. I have many different hobbies that I enjoy. I am 30 plus years sober and value my sobriety on a daily basis. I have exercised many of my own demons which helps me recognize the struggle in others. I make an effort to not be judgemental of anyone's choices. I listen, I provide a safe space.
The first session is mostly to build rapport, learn more about one another and develop a treatment plan. I will gather information and assist client in identifying what goals they have for therapy. My goal is to assist the client in not needing my services for longer than necessary.
I am a good listener and can hold a safe space to assist client in getting their story out. I can also challenge client on their perspective and assist them in thinking about things in a different way. I have a quirky, gentle spirit that helps clients become more open and honest about what they are dealing with and gently prod them out of the problems and into the solutions.
I am best suited to work one on one with clients. I work well with most people. I mostly work with people struggling with depression and anxiety. I also work with ADHD and other issues. My ideal client is one who is open to learning and trying new skills and honest about what they are struggling with in their daily life. Some people like doing homework between sessions and that is highly recommended. Other people just want to be heard and to understand themselves better. The approach changes depending on the client and their mindset.
