Have you ever felt like you would never get ahead in life? Have you ever been so depressed that you couldn’t get out of bed, shower, brush your teeth, or return a call or a text? Have you recently gone through a life transition and have no idea how to begin putting your life back together? Have you ever been in situations that made you so anxious or panicked that that you felt like you might be having a heart attack? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I can help guide you in making the necessary changes in your life to help you feel like a worthwhile, lovable, productive, competent, and a successful individual. Hi, I'm Suzanne. I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist in NC. In my 18-year career as a therapist, I have significant experience working with individuals with mental health concerns and substance use disorders. I have provided community-based therapy as well as provided therapy to addicts receiving MAT. My counseling style is very easy going. I have been described as a caring, non-judgmental, real, honest, and open therapist. I like to use humor in sessions. I hope to provide you with a non-judgmental and safe environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings, openly and honestly. I look forward to meeting you and working with you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will introduce ourselves. If you have any questions about me, please feel free to ask. Then we will review the intake form and the measures that you received as part of the initial intake process. With the information derived from those forms, and the discussion during our initial session, we will begin to identify preliminary therapy goals. Together, we will then develop your treatment plan as a guide for our future sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have been described as a caring, non-judgmental, real, honest, and open counselor. I like to use humor in sessions. During sessions, I will focus on helping you to identify your strengths and abilities to help you effectively determine your goals. Also, we will identify which of your challenges you feel is the more pressing of your concerns. I believe that the sessions are "your" sessions. If something has come up in your life that feels quite distressing, please bring it up during our session.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am particularly interested on working with clients with mood disorders, the LGBTQIA+ community, substance use disorders, life transitions, building self-esteem/self confidence, anger management, relationship concerns, overwhelm, imposter syndrome, women's issues, and self-sabotage.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is useful in helping individual in learning how their thoughts influence their behaviors. As a therapist, I have used CBT with those struggle with mood disorders; such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, LGBTQIA+ challenges; and women's issues.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivation Interviewing is treatment method that helps people change their behaviors by building their internal motivation. It helps clients believe in their ability to change, by identifying their progress and reinforcing their strengths.

Reality Therapy

Reality Therapy is a treatment method that helps clients to identify their and address their needs. It's based on the idea that peoples behaviors are choices, and that their current behavior is determinized by their current needs. Reality Therapy focuses on the present, not the past; focuses on improving relationships and circumstances, and focuses on helping clients make responsible decisions.
