New to Grow
I’m Dr. Demetria Buie, a licensed clinical social worker and therapist dedicated to helping individuals heal, grow, and reconnect with their sense of self. My work is grounded in compassion, authenticity, and cultural awareness, with a focus on empowering clients to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and clarity. I specialize in supporting individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, and issues of identity, self-worth, and life transitions. My approach blends evidence-based practices—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a holistic understanding of mind, body, and spirit to create meaningful and lasting change.
In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know one another and create a comfortable, judgment-free space where you can share what’s been bringing you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand your background, current challenges, and goals for treatment, while also giving you the opportunity to ask me questions and express what you need from our work together. This session is about building trust and beginning to map out a plan that feels supportive, realistic, and aligned with your values. My goal is for you to leave our first meeting feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about the path ahead.
My greatest strengths as a therapist lie in my ability to create a warm, affirming, and culturally responsive space where clients feel genuinely seen and supported. I blend evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a holistic focus that honors the mind, body, and spirit connection. I help clients unpack deep emotional wounds, challenge self-limiting beliefs, and develop practical coping skills that foster lasting change. Clients often share that my approach helps them feel both empowered and grounded, as we work together to transform pain into purpose and build a stronger sense of self.
My ideal clients are individuals who are ready to do the inner work of healing and self-discovery. I work best with those who may be feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected due to anxiety, depression, or past trauma and who desire to build healthier relationships with themselves and others. Many of my clients are high achievers or caretakers who have spent years putting others first and are now ready to prioritize their own emotional well-being. I also specialize in working with clients navigating identity, self-worth, and life transitions, particularly within the Black community, where spirituality, culture, and resilience are powerful parts of the healing journey. Together, we create a safe space for honesty, growth, and transformation.
I have extensive experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a foundational treatment approach in my clinical practice. CBT allows me to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress and maladaptive behaviors. In my work, I use CBT to guide clients in recognizing the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and actions, and to develop more balanced and adaptive ways of thinking.
