Hi, I’m Shenelle Jacobs, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), and National Certified Counselor (NCC) with over eight years of experience in the counseling field. I specialize in supporting individuals who are navigating addiction, anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I am trained in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which allows me to help clients process difficult experiences, regulate intense emotions, and build practical coping skills. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel understood and empowered. Together, we will work toward strengthening resilience, increasing self-awareness, and helping you move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation for our work together. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, and any important background that helps me better understand your experiences. I’ll ask questions about your symptoms, goals, and what you hope to gain from therapy, but you are always in control of what you choose to share and at what pace. I will also explain confidentiality, answer any questions you have about the therapy process, and begin collaborating with you on initial goals. My priority is to create a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable and supported. You do not need to have everything figured out—therapy is a place to explore, reflect, and begin moving forward together.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My greatest strength is my ability to create a safe, grounded, and supportive space where clients feel genuinely seen and understood. I combine warmth and empathy with practical, evidence-based tools, helping clients not only explore their experiences but also build real skills they can use in daily life. I specialize in helping clients work through trauma, addiction, anxiety, and depression using approaches such as EMDR, CBT, and DBT. Clients often tell me they appreciate my calm, nonjudgmental style and my ability to gently guide them through difficult emotions while keeping therapy focused on meaningful change. My goal is to help you feel more empowered, more regulated, and more confident in your ability to move forward.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I work best with individuals who are ready to gain deeper insight into themselves and begin creating meaningful, lasting change. Many of the clients I support are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, or the impact of difficult relationships and major life transitions. They may feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, yet they are open to growth, healing, and learning healthier ways to cope. My ideal clients value a collaborative, compassionate approach and appreciate having a therapist who meets them where they are. Therapy with me is not about judgment or pressure—it is about moving forward at a pace that feels safe, supported, and empowering. Whether your goal is to reduce symptoms, heal from past experiences, strengthen your emotional resilience, or create a more balanced and fulfilling life, I am here to help you get there. I know that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable and difficult. You do not have to face this alone. Whether you are seeking recovery, emotional stability, or a healthier way to navigate life’s challenges, I will walk alongside you with care, skill, and respect as you move toward lasting wellness.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
As an experienced therapist, I specialize in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients in identifying and transforming unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. My therapeutic style is collaborative, empowering clients to explore cognitive distortions and develop practical, effective coping strategies. I integrate core CBT techniques such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and exposure-based interventions to address a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, trauma, depression, and addiction. In my work with anxiety and trauma, I place particular emphasis on helping clients understand the impact of past experiences on present functioning, while teaching tools for emotion regulation and grounding. Through structured, evidence-based interventions, I guide clients in processing traumatic memories safely and building resilience. I also work to help clients recognize the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, enabling long-term positive change. My goal is to ensure that clients not only experience relief but also leave therapy with increased self-awareness and the skills needed to sustain their progress and thrive.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
In my work as a therapist, I utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop greater emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT offers a structured, skills-based approach that empowers clients to navigate intense emotions without becoming overwhelmed or resorting to harmful behaviors. I incorporate mindfulness practices and validation strategies to create a nonjudgmental, supportive environment where clients feel safe exploring their challenges. Whether addressing issues such as trauma, anxiety, or addiction, DBT provides clients with practical tools to build resilience and create lasting change. My goal is to help clients find balance between acceptance and growth as they work toward a more stable and fulfilling life.
EMDR
In my work as a therapist, I utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients process and heal from traumatic experiences that continue to impact their present lives. EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based approach that enables clients to access and reprocess distressing memories in a safe and controlled way, reducing the emotional intensity associated with those experiences. I guide clients through targeted phases of EMDR to uncover core beliefs, reduce emotional triggers, and promote adaptive resolution. This method is particularly effective for clients struggling with trauma, anxiety, and negative self-concept. My goal is to support clients in achieving emotional healing and greater freedom from the past so they can move forward with clarity and confidence.
