I place a high value on authenticity, empathy, and self-awareness, both for myself and my clients as individuals, but also as a critical part of the therapeutic process (I also take advantage of the healing power of laughter whenever possible!). I aim to normalize and validate my clients’ experiences without judgment, and above all, to provide the most basic of human needs: to feel seen and heard. Hi! My name is Stephanie (Stephanie or Stevie is fine) and I have been providing therapy in NJ exclusively via telehealth for the last 3 years (prior to that, in person). If you have been struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety, particularly if they are related to a traumatic experience, I would love the opportunity to work with you to reduce your mood- or anxiety-related symptoms, and to help you to experience a present that is not overshadowed or negatively impacted by situations and events from your past. I love working with women ages 20 to 30-something who are still in academia or just starting out in their careers, but also love working with women of any age. I frequently work with survivors of child sexual abuse, as well as those struggling with issues related to self-esteem/self-worth, but have treated clients with many different conditions, the most common of which are listed below. *My practice is focused primarily on treating adults who identify as female as well as being a welcoming space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I do not currently treat cisgender heterosexual males, children or adolescents. Visit my website for client feedback: www.of2mindstherapy.com

“Together, we will work on strategies that address the root cause of difficulties. We have what we need inside us. Let’s use curiosity and compassion to ask the hard questions. Those answers are the gateway to resolution. Call me and let’s talk.” I believe there are no broken people. Decisions made during difficult, emotional times are influenced by unsettled parts. Through talk therapy, we can address past hurts in a safe and supportive therapeutic space free of judgment. Doing so will begin the healing process. The focus is to empower your quiet voice within to share your truth with first yourself and then others. The goal is to end historic pain by creating a more pleasant present, which allows you to live your best life.

Therapy I feel is a chance to learn and shift patterns in our lives. Relationships are a key part of life but are difficult on many levels and we learn the way that we communicate with other from our experience. Learning and understanding that experience can help us make the changes that we would like to see in life. I believe in having an open space free from judgement were people can explore who they are and learn how to use that to change their lives and their relationships with others. I work with people from all different perspectives and believe that we are the products of our experience and that we can find ways to change the patterns that are not helpful for us. Communication is key in relationships but it is something that we have trouble with but are not always aware of the impact. Learning patterns, identifying the meaning that we put to our experiences and seeing our strengths are ways that allow us to become the person that we want to be without losing who we are.

My anchoring belief as a therapist- and as a person- is that therapy isn't about "being fixed," as if any of us are some kind of broken thing. To me, it’s about recovering from suffering, and connecting more deeply and authentically to yourself, allowing for your thoughts, feelings, desires and dreams. It can be difficult to begin a new therapy relationship and be vulnerable, especially when relationships have been harmful in the past. I think taking the risk anyway reflects an inherent pull toward repairing the old wounds that restrict our capacity to live freely and joyfully. I provide psychodynamic, trauma-informed, and relational psychotherapy. We’ll collaboratively explore and process the impact of the past on the present, as well as tackle current difficulties. Creative arts therapy and drama therapy approaches can also be integrated into the therapy process, based on client interest and need. My style is warm, nonjudgmental, playful, curious and real- I have very solid boundaries, but have learned how to navigate them while also being a very real person in the room. I love this work, and love being an agent of change in guiding folks to live the life they truly want to live, and feel more alive inside of it.

I enjoy empowering people and digging out their strengths. I don't ask fish to fly, neither do I ask birds to swim. I respect everyone's strengths and help my client recognize them. I love to highlight my client's strengths. I offer a safe, warm, therapeutic, judgment-free space for Adults (18+) and Older Adults (65+). I am sorry, but I do not accept clients who pay in cash. Also, every late cancellation or no-show accrues a late charge fee. It is my ethical duty to officially terminate our therapeutic relationship when it is reasonably clear that the client is no longer beneficent, services are no longer required, counseling no longer serves the client's needs and/or interests or Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT limits do not allow the provision of further counseling services. It is the policy of Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT, that our professional relationship will be terminated after a one-month consistent lapse of meeting with a client. Dr. Olushola Bakare, LMFT, will attempt to notify you of this change in status as soon as possible after one month. My ethical duty is to identify, be available, and care for current clients.
