Hello! I'm Karen Lenahan, LMHC and as a therapist, I am dedicated to creating a safe, empathetic space for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings. I believe in the power of human connection and tailor my approach to meet each person's specific needs. My goal is to empower clients to cultivate resilience, self-awareness, and hope on their path to healing and self-discovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first therapy session, you can expect to complete an intake assessment, discuss and develop a treatment plan, create a safety plan, and have the opportunity to ask questions and get to know each other. This initial session sets the stage for a collaborative goal-setting approach and support throughout your treatment journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a therapist include a nonjudgmental attitude, compassion, openness, and a relaxed demeanor. These qualities create a safe and welcoming environment for clients, allowing them to feel understood, accepted, and supported. My approach promotes trust and open communication, essential for effective therapeutic relationships.

My treatment methods

Strength-Based

One of the many modalities I like to utilize is Strength-Based. Strength-based therapy focuses on identifying and building on an individual's strengths rather than solely on weaknesses or problems. This approach can be helpful because it empowers clients to recognize their abilities, resilience, and resources. By highlighting strengths, individuals can feel more confident, optimistic, and capable of overcoming challenges. This approach fosters a more positive and supportive therapeutic relationship, as clients feel understood and validated. Strength-based therapy can help promote a sense of agency, hope, and self-efficacy, leading to meaningful personal growth and positive change.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) because it is an evidence-based approach focusing on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This therapy helps individuals recognize and change negative thought patterns and behaviors contributing to their difficulties. By addressing and modifying these patterns, CBT can improve mood, behavior, and overall well-being. Additionally, CBT provides practical tools and coping strategies for clients to manage challenges and achieve their therapeutic goals. It is a proactive and collaborative approach that can bring about positive, tangible changes relatively quickly.

Eclectic

Taking an eclectic approach to therapy is beneficial because it allows me to integrate various therapeutic techniques and tools from different theoretical orientations. This approach enables me to tailor the treatment to each client's unique needs, considering their specific issues, preferences, and personality. Drawing from various therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Humanistic Therapy, I can create a more comprehensive treatment plan that addresses the complexity of human experience and psychological problems. This flexibility often leads to a more personalized and effective therapeutic process, catering to clients' diverse needs and promoting better outcomes.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I utilize solution-focused brief treatment because it focuses on identifying and working towards solutions rather than dwelling on problems. This approach is efficient and effective, as it helps clients set specific, achievable goals and empowers them to make positive changes relatively quickly. The emphasis on the client's strengths and resources makes the therapy process more hopeful and constructive. Additionally, solution-focused brief treatment's structured and goal-oriented nature aligns with my belief in creating a personalized and effective therapeutic process.
