Hello, I am a retired educator who served for 30 years, with over 17 years as a school counselor, working with families and individual students from 4 years of age to 18 years old. I worked with students setting goals, problem solving, as well as, working to manage anger and grief. I also assisted many parents in finding more effective tools in behavior management systems at home and was able to help parents and adolescents find better tools to communicate with each other throughout my career as a school counselor. As retirement drew near, I received my LPC and went into the private sector and began working mainly with individuals who experienced trauma, through a non-profit organization. I have a passion working with individuals and families and assisting them in finding their way through difficult situations in life. I especially love assisting parents with difficulties with children in the school setting and then later assisting trauma victims in regaining their power and strength through some of the darkest days. I understand what it is like to grieve and hurt when people you trust the most in the world, break your trust and finding your way out of that dark tunnel is difficult, but possible. My goal as a therapist is always to assist my clients in becoming a stronger individual and knowing that they are always stronger and better because of and In-spite of what they have been through, because they are Survivors!

At the Child & Adult Behavior Center, we help both adults and children, as well as parents. For adults, we help you find ways to cope with stress, anxiety, loss and depression. Not only talking through and understanding, but also concrete "what to do about it" coping skills, lead to calmer, more stable emotions and relationships. We find cognitive behavioral therapy very useful, and within that, learning the skills of mindfulness, a form of in-the-moment meditative thinking, to calm and focus the mind when emotions overtake. This fosters a new way of viewing and handling stressful situations as they arise. For children's therapy, we work with you, and with your child. Parents' feedback is a critical part of helping children feel and do better. We help you with parent-child interactions to find your way as you navigate the seas of child behavior. Our specializations are the treatment for Aspergers/autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, emotional self regulation, the behavioral and emotional aspects of sensory issues, anxiety and depression. Our special programs also treat a wide range of neuroatypical, developmentally challenged children. Neuro-typical parent-child relationships, family relations, and parenting issues for all children and teens are also our focus. We help - you help your child - with ideas and techniques to put into action. Ideas that can greatly reduce the stress and storm of being a parent in the trenches. Peace in the home is possible!

I have 15 + years of accumulative training and experience in the fields of mental health, trauma, domestic violence, foster care and adoption. Some clients I see are experiencing short-term stressors while others are experiencing longer-term mental health disturbances. For individual therapy, I generally treat adults and adolescents ages 12 and older. For children younger than 12, or for adolescents otherwise not appropriate for telehealth, It may be recommended to address concerns in the form of family therapy. I use an integrated model that build upon a persons existing beliefs, strategies and virtues, and I work with individuals and families experiencing a wide array of presenting concerns. I am a life long student of philosophy. I enjoy reading, writing, painting, drawing, sculpture and playing music. I find peace in the outdoors and camping, inspiration in community collaboration, and I am passionate about psychotherapy. It has been my great privilege to walk with people as they unlock the resources they need to stabilize and grow. I believe that community stigma around mental health is reduced as individuals call on the courage to seek help. "The only normal people are people you dont know very well" -Alfred Adler.

Therapy with me is taking a journey through the labyrinth of your mind. It's a journey into who you are, or think you are, and why. It's narrating your stories through the use of a metaphysical philosophy of Epistemology, which is the study of Knowledge. Your subconscious and Shadow, the stories you tell yourself and where they came from. Mindfully exploring if what you see is Reality or just perception. It's family of origin, a examining the stories through a cognitive behavior eye-why you are the way you are, and what to do about it. How to interact from a place of authenticity without letting outside judgements play games with your stories.

Hi! I'm Nicole Johnson, a Texas resident, but Louisiana native. I completed my Master's of Art in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern State University. I find passion in working with BIPOC adults that have been generationally affected by the mental health stigma. I bring my authentic self to the counseling relationship in hopes that you will be comfortable to do the same. I'm considered to have more of a relaxed approach to therapy, which often includes laughter when appropriate and will feel more like a conversation with an old friend - without the judgement or personal opinions.

*** Note to NEW CLIENTS: Please schedule a 6am/7am appointment time on any available date and Dr. Daniela will contact you directly to schedule an Intake Session at a time and day that is convenient for you. Thank you! We are a whole world. Therapy is about mapping out, traveling to, and learning from all of the places we have inside of us. We can choose the places we call home, the places we visit sometimes, and the places we bring closure to as time goes on. My job as a therapist is to help you explore how your life experiences, influential relationships, and core beliefs continue to play a part in your everyday life. I’ve found that if we can work together to visit uncomfortable places long enough to find calm and to start to look around, we’ll see that every life event has important insight to keep present as we live out new experiences. I work with children, teens, and adults as they go through times of struggle, growth, and restoration by offering evidence-based resources and a Christ-centered approach to those who wish to incorporate their faith in their counseling journey. Qualifications: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida. I was able to earn my Master’s degree in 2008 from Palm Beach Atlantic, a Christian University which offered a specialization in Biblical foundations for Counseling work, and in 2013, I also completed my Doctor of Education degree from Argosy University, which gave me the opportunity to focus on child development as an area of study.

I have been a counselor for over 30 years working with a variety of people. Whenever I have done other things I have always found myself missing being a therapist and return as soon as I can! This is when I feel most at home. Like most people my age I have experienced death, trauma, divorce, medical problems as well as joy, connection, love, friendship and productivity aka "the Full Catastrophe of Living". I have been on both sides of the couch, and am truly honored when clients pick me to work with them. I work with a variety of disabilities, mental health issues and am LGBTQ+ affirming. I have worked with people from many different religious, cultural and minority backgrounds and love learning new things. I am happily married to my second husband, have two grandchildren and on my own time can be found working behind the scenes or on stage at a local theatre. Naturally, popcorn is my favorite food!

Still reeling from the election results, but don't have a safe space to process your feelings? Worried about the future, but others around you don't seem to get it? Have you ever wanted a safe space to talk and explore, unfiltered and unafraid of what the other person is going to think? If you've answered yes to any of these questions, then keep reading because I might be a good match for you! I offer a different perspective. I am licensed in Texas with a decade of professional counseling experience. My natural counseling style is more flexible, casual, and exploratory. I like to create a safe space that helps clients get curious about the root cause of why they do what they do. I help clients find more than just band aid solutions. I believe in meeting people where they are at, so I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process! I am an lgbtq+ affirming therapist who is part of the community myself so I work well with clients in the lgbtq+ community, including trans clients and clients struggling with coming out. I also work well with those recovering from spiritual abuse and who might be experiencing some form of religious trauma. For those who have undergone spiritual abuse from high control religions, I help people deconstruct from unhelpful, fundamentalist beliefs as we explore the psychological and emotional impact of existing in high control religious environments. Lastly, I work well with clients facing issues related to gender dysphoria, covert narcissistic abuse, substance abuse, domestic abuse, family enmeshment, and self esteem.

I feel that clients shouldn't have to be in therapy forever! While co-creating this process with you, I strive to balance my active listening with imparting active, hands-on techniques to help you reclaim your narrative and overcome obstacles in your path. I feel it's about more water rather than less soda, so to speak, and take both a clinical and holistic approach to helping you enhance alignment and experience deeper fulfillment in your journey. Along with my LCSW, I am trained in EMDR, certified in Theta Healing, Reiki, Transformational Life Coaching, and Therapeutic Touch, and Master Practitioner certified in Neuro Linguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy, and Time Line Therapy. I feel I provide a safe space where shame and judgements are left at the door, and we will explore your wants, needs, and feelings with curiosity and compassion. I feel it's very much a co-created process, as you know more about you than I ever will. The work is also far more about our uncovering your truth than you adopting mine. With that said, I have a wide array of modalities and approaches I feel I have quite dialed in, and we can collaboratively determine which tools and approaches best suit your needs. My hope is that our work together will help you feel not only hear and validated, but also empowered and aware of how to eat the elephant on your own going forward. I see this work as us walking side by side, with you gradually taking the lead with me supportively in your corner. If you have something pressing you wish to discuss in session, that will always take precedence. My job is ultimately to actively listen and hold space. With that said, if that's all I was doing, you'd inevitably say, "Robby, you're a nice guy. But I don't know how much we're actually getting done." To that end, I feel it's far more important to determine HOW you think rather than WHAT you think. So it tends to be important for us to explore unconscious limiting beliefs and emotions along with the conscious. You can also expect to learn clear and concise action steps (ranging from mindfulness exercises to creative writing prompts to holistic practices like meditation and breathwork) to help you regulate your emotions and reclaim your narrative. I feel that many people are hesitant to engage in therapy because they perceive a stigma tied to seeking support. After all, the notion of "mentally ill" does have a negative connotation. The way I see it, though the process is not about fixing a broken thing, but rather enhancing one's alignment and fulfillment (and okay, yes, also confronting obstacles to those pieces). But if the focus is on "Where am I trying to get to and how will I know that I got there?" where our work is to simply close the gap between here and there, it can help us leave shame and judgements at the door, and perhaps even enable you to look forward to increased awareness and empowerment in your journey forward.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Self Esteem?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Self Esteem, is filtering therapists in Texas that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
