Tamera J. Stouton
I’m Tamera J. Stouton, a Licensed Professional Counselor, EMDR Certified Therapist, and EMDR Consultant-in-Training! I love guiding women, couples, and emerging EMDR therapists through the journey of becoming—healing wounds, building healthy relationships, and developing the confidence to show up fully in life, relationships and business. My approach weaves evidence-based trauma therapy with a deeply holistic lens: honoring the mind, body, and spirit as one system of healing. In our work together, therapy & consultation becomes a sacred journey, a space to slow down, process painful experiences, and reconnect with your innate resilience. I integrate EMDR, parts work, polyvagal and somatic practices, along with relational frameworks like Gottman and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to help my clients move beyond survival into embodied peace and purpose.
I use EMDR, EFIT & MCBT to help clients challenge their past patterns and cycles that keep them from living their lives in the way they truly desire and deserve.
As a therapist & EMDR consultant in training, I bring both clinical depth and spiritual wisdom, rooted in years of study, teaching, and lived experience. I believe healing is not just about symptom relief; it’s about remembering who you are beneath the wounds. If you’re ready to transform old patterns and live from a place of grounded wholeness, I’d be honored to walk beside you on your healing journey.
First session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to connect, explore what brings you to therapy, and begin creating a space where you feel safe, seen, and heard. You don't have to know where to begin, have the right words, or share everything all at once. We'll gently explore your experiences, current challenges, and what you hope to gain from our work together. I'll also introduce you to my approach to healing, which honors the connection between your mind, body, and emotions. My intention is for you to leave feeling understood, supported, and hopeful about the possibilities ahead. Healing begins with connection, and we will move at a pace that honors you.
Strengths
My greatest strengths as a therapist are creating safety, helping clients feel deeply seen, and guiding them through real, lasting transformation. I specialize in trauma therapy using EMDR, parts work, and somatic approaches that help the body and mind heal together. Clients often tell me that my calm presence and ability to make sense of complex emotions help them feel grounded and hopeful again. I bring a holistic perspective...integrating relational healing (for couples and individuals) with spiritual and emotional growth. Whether we’re working through anxiety, attachment wounds, or relationship patterns, I help you reconnect to your inner strength and the parts of you that already know how to heal. I’m not just focused on reducing symptoms; I’m here to help you experience peace, clarity, and confidence in who you are. My goal is that you leave each session feeling more connected to yourself, more equipped with tools for daily life, and more empowered to create the relationships and life you desire.
Ideal clients
I work best with individuals and couples who are ready to move beyond simply surviving and begin reconnecting with themselves and one another. You may be someone who has spent years being strong for everyone else while quietly carrying the weight of past experiences, emotional wounds, anxiety, or relationship struggles. Perhaps you understand why you feel the way you do, but still find yourself repeating patterns you long to change. You desire more than coping; you want to feel safe within yourself, build meaningful connections, and experience a deeper sense of peace. You don't have to have everything figured out. Just a willingness to become curious about yourself and what healing could look like for you.
Treatment methods
EMDR
I help couples who feel stuck in cycles of conflict, emotional disconnection, betrayal wounds, communication struggles, and unresolved trauma impacting their relationship. Many couples I work with love each other deeply but feel overwhelmed by triggers, defensiveness, shutdown, or difficulty feeling emotionally safe together. My approach is EMDR-informed, attachment-focused, and polyvagal-informed. I help couples understand how past experiences and nervous system responses shape present relationship patterns. Rather than only teaching communication skills, we focus on healing the deeper wounds underneath the conflict to rebuild trust, emotional safety, connection, and intimacy.
Trauma-Informed Care
I believe healing begins when you feel safe enough to be seen, heard, and understood without judgment. My trauma-informed approach honors your story, your pace, and the ways you've learned to protect yourself through life's difficult experiences. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" we gently explore, "What happened to you, and how have you learned to survive?" Together, we create a compassionate space where you can reconnect with yourself, build trust in your own capacity to heal, and discover that you are more than what you've been through.
Somatic
I believe healing is not just about understanding your story, but learning to feel safe within yourself again. Our bodies often carry what words cannot fully express. Through a gentle, compassionate mind-body approach, I invite you to slow down, listen to your body's wisdom, and reconnect with yourself. Together, we explore how your experiences have shaped your nervous system, creating space for greater awareness, self-compassion, and healing. My intention is to help you move beyond simply surviving toward feeling more grounded, connected, and at home within yourself. Throughout our work together, I observe transformative insights that empower women to understand themselves better and approach life’s challenges with newfound strength. My goal is to help them take charge of their mental health and well-being. I feel privileged to guide women toward cultivating resilience, self-compas
Attachment-based
I believe our earliest relationships shape how we learn to love, trust, connect, and experience safety with ourselves and others. Through an attachment-based approach, I gently help you explore the relational patterns you've developed, honoring the ways you've learned to protect your heart and meet your need for connection. Together, we create space to understand old wounds, nurture self-compassion, and build a greater sense of emotional security. My intention is to help you experience relationships where you can feel safe, seen, valued, and connected without losing yourself.
Gottman method
I believe healthy relationships are built through intentional connection, emotional safety, and a willingness to understand one another. Using the Gottman Method, I help couples move beyond cycles of conflict, disconnection, and misunderstanding to rediscover the friendship and connection at the heart of their relationship. Together, we explore communication patterns, strengthen emotional intimacy, rebuild trust, and learn healthier ways to navigate differences. My intention is to create a space where both partners feel heard, valued, and supported as they build a relationship rooted in friendship, compassion, and lasting connection.
