Hello,
I was born and raised in Stockton, California. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and in 1997, after 25 yeas of service, I retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, I worked as a Farrier (Horseshoer), as well as a structural welder (Ironworker), as those were the most marketable skill that I had. I came to a point where old injuries came back to haunt me and I could no longer walk (several years later, thanks to a surgery through the VA, I can walk again; thankful for that).
At this point, I changed professions and out of a desire to work with veterans, I returned to school, accomplishing all that was necessary to become a licensed counselor. I spent another career working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically as a counselor in the Readjustment Counseling Service (Vet Center). I recently retired from the Vet Center and now I work part-time here with Grow Therapy.
As a retired Marine senior staff Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) and disabled combat veteran myself, the Vet Center was the perfect job. Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling to combat veterans and provide counseling to survivors of military sexual trauma (MST). Vet Centers also provide group counseling, bereavement counseling and couples counseling when this is determined to be of support to the veteran.
Readjustment counseling many times consists of treating/addressing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress (PTSD), I.e., anxiety, depression, exaggerated startle response, hypervigilance, sleep disturbance, etc. Many veterans go on to work as first responders and working with many first responders as well as medical personal, has provided me with a great deal of additional experience.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and have been providing therapy for over eight years to diverse populations. I am passionate about mental health and like to start my work with my clients by building a therapeutic relationship and bringing a genuine sense of hope into the therapy process. Being empathic, understanding and non judgmental is my style when working with clients. I am interested in couples therapy but I also enjoy working with individuals, families and groups. Looking forward to connect with you and help you learn more about yourself and identify your future goals.
Hello, I'm Tara...
I love working with clients who are struggling with career and life transitions, anxiety, grief and loss, stress management and sex, intimacy & relationship concerns. Prior to my work as a therapist, I worked for years in the entertainment industry with various film, TV and music artists. I love to work with creative types and understand the challenges many face working in that industry.
I received my M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University with an emphasis on trauma studies. I'm a member of AASECT with the goal of becoming an AASECT certified sex therapist in the near future.
I'm also a 500-hour RYT certified yoga and meditation teacher. I like to incorporate somatic and mindfulness exercises into my work with individuals and groups. I also have a background working as a sexual assault advocate and bring a strong passion and skill set for working with individuals with sexual trauma histories. I'm based in Los Angeles. When I'm not working, I can be found with my Chihuahua (Homer), hiking, reading, watching film & TV and working on creative writing projects.
I’m a Latino therapist who specializes in working with trauma, identity, and the emotional weight that comes from growing up in high-stress environments. I help people make sense of patterns rooted in past experiences — whether that’s family dysfunction, grief, street violence, or cultural pressure — so they can move through life with more clarity and less emotional reactivity.
My style is honest, direct, and grounded. I’m not the kind of therapist who just nods and listens — I’ll challenge you when needed and help you get to the core of what’s keeping you stuck. I work especially well with first-generation men, individuals processing childhood or gang-related trauma, and those navigating the tension between cultural loyalty and personal growth.
I’ve spent the last five years working across community mental health, jail reentry, and school-based settings — including the LA County Department of Mental Health, homeless outreach in South Central, and now as a therapist in a middle school. My approach is shaped by both clinical training and real-life experience supporting clients in some of the most challenging situations.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience supporting individuals with complex and high acuity mental health needs. My work is grounded in trauma informed and trauma responsive care, with a strong commitment to creating inclusive, affirming spaces for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent clients, and individuals in rural communities. I work across the lifespan, including children (7+), adults, older adults, families, and couples.
My approach is collaborative and empowering, centered on the belief that clients are the experts in their own lives and require my clinical expertise. I often describe my role as “working myself out of a job” to help clients build the insight, skills, and confidence needed to advocate for themselves and navigate systems independently. As a trauma specialist, I tailor evidence based interventions to each client’s identities, needs, strengths, and goals. My primary approaches include Somatic Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)-(EMDRIA certification pending), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I also integrate Internal Family Systems informed interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, exposure based strategies, mindfulness, and other approaches as clinically appropriate. I adapt treatment for neurodivergent clients and clients with intellectual or developmental disabilities because therapy should adjust to the person and not require the person to adjust to therapy.
I am continually shaped by the courage, insight, and lived experiences clients bring into our work. Every advanced training, specialty, certification, and state license reflect lessons learned from clients. I carry their trust, stories, and influence into every session with gratitude and responsibility.

I am a licensed psychotherapist and hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology. I have over 30 years experience and have performed thousands of hours of counseling. I have worked across a broad spectrum of mental health settings including private practice, CPS, Residential Treatment Centers, substance abuse facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and conducted psychiatric evaluations in a hospital ER. I've seen it all and dealt with it all. My life’s work has been dedicated to assisting people overcoming problems, and living happier, more rewarding and fulfilling lives.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with 5+ years of experience supporting individuals on their healing journeys. I believe your mind and body brought you here for a reason. My approach centers the needs of Black women and women of color who are ready to shift out of survival mode, perfectionism, and overthinking, and into deeper connection with themselves. I focus on somatic regulation, not just cognitive insight, because healing isn’t only about talking, it’s about learning to feel safe in your body. I offer a grounding, collaborative space where you can slow down, tune in, and build the inner capacity to show up for yourself with compassion and clarity.
You're here for a reason. The right fit can change the outcome. Maybe I can help.
Whether it's the same fight on repeat, a habit you can't shake, a loss, or just not feeling like yourself, I invite you to keep reading to learn more about me and my approach.
Maybe your life is working in most of the ways that count—work, relationships, the things you care about—but something keeps getting in the way. The same argument. Anxiety that doesn't match the situation. Shutting down when someone gets close, or blowing up and regretting it later. You might understand exactly what you're doing and still do it anyway. Or maybe something happened, like an affair coming to light, a relationship ending, or losing someone, and the way you've always handled things isn't working anymore.
Therapy with me has direction. We'll know what we're working toward and check in regularly on what's changing and what's still getting in the way. What we work on in session should carry into your life, whether that means noticing a pattern, trying a different response, or having a conversation you've been avoiding.
You'll know you're making progress when you catch a familiar pattern sooner, understand what's happening inside you instead of just reacting, stay steadier in hard conversations, set boundaries and make decisions with less second-guessing, recover from setbacks faster, and handle things on your own that you used to need help with.
Progress doesn't mean you'll never feel anxious, angry, or stuck again. It means you're better at handling it yourself. As that becomes consistent, we'll space sessions out and eventually wrap up. The goal is for you to need me less over time.

Additionally, I have an insider's perspective on cross-cultural/expat issues and understand some of the challenges one meets when living in a country different from where they were born. Currently, I am a PhD candidate in East-West psychology with a focus on imaginal practices and their transformative potential.
