Kenyatta Buford
Hello, I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked for several years in residential treatment, community mental health, and private practice working with teens and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and life changes. My approach is down-to-earth and collaborative. I want therapy to feel like a real conversation while still doing real work.
First session
Your first session is really about getting to know you as a person, not just going through a list of symptoms. I want to understand what brought you to therapy, what has been happening in your life, what you’ve already tried, and what you would like to be different. There’s no pressure to tell me everything in one session or have the perfect words to explain how you feel. We’ll talk about what matters most to you and begin identifying some goals together. I also want you to leave that first session with a better understanding of how we can work together and what therapy with me will actually look like.
Strengths
I’m good at meeting people where they are and building trust without forcing it. I bring warmth, humor, honesty, and real-life perspective into the room. I use CBT and practical tools, but I also listen. I want to understand you as a person, not just a diagnosis or a list of symptoms.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who knows something needs to change, even if they’re not sure where to start. You may be dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, or feeling stuck. I work best with people who are willing to be honest, look at patterns, and try something different even if it is not something they would normally give a try.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
My approach is grounded in CBT, but therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. I help with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, and life changes. We’ll look at how your thoughts, feelings, and actions connect, while building practical tools you can actually use when life gets difficult.
