Hi, I’m Lisa. You know that cartoon of the little dog at the kitchen table sipping coffee while the house burns around him? Is that you? Have you been saying, “This is fine, this is OK” for way too long? Whether you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, or overwhelming stress; if something happened to you that’s making life hurt; if you feel your house is on fire and it’s just not “fine” anymore – I am here to listen and to help. You will find in me warmth, compassion, and an ability to truly listen until you know you’ve been understood. I will also bring to you everything I have learned in over 7 years of working with clients who experience trauma, depression, and anxiety. Together, we will explore where you’re coming from, set our sights on where you’d like to go, and then build a plan to get you there. We will use evidence-based practices to strengthen what’s already strong in you, heal what hurts, and create new ways to thrive. Seeking therapy can feel scary, but I’m about as frightening as a nerdy baby duck. Whatever you’ve been dealing with, we’ve got it. Together, we’ll work me out of a job. You are strong enough, you are smart enough, and my favorite moment is when my clients say, “Yeah, I think I’m good now.”

I serve the young adult population, ages 18 to 35. This is a critical time in life where our decisions today effect our future for years to come. This age group is overlooked, often because society says you should be having "the time of your life." The reality is that young adulthood can be tumultuous and existential. Together, we will reveal your core values, examine family dynamics, determine goals, and prove that you have what we need to get you on the path to your desired future.

I'm a social worker with over 45 years of experience with children, adolescents, families, couples and adults. I find that people get the best results when we look at their lives as a whole -- physical, emotional, intellectual, what many people call spiritual (your most deeply held beliefs and values), and socially, as a member of your community. I have training and experience in a variety of treatments which are evidence-based. I can also do dreamwork and art therapy if this is something that is appealing to you, but I have to say up front that these, while very well known, do not have the same degree of corroboration as evidence-based practices. I have worked since the late 70s with survivors of trauma: physical abuse, neglect, sexual assault, and combat trauma. It has been one of the great honors of my life to have received the trust of so many who have endured trauma, and to have been a part of their healing.

My goal is to empower individuals to embrace their authentic selves and find comfort in their daily lives. I insist on personalizing my interventions to suit each individual's needs. I work mostly with young adults and adults (ages 18+). I believe that most of us would benefit from therapy at most points throughout our lives. We are social beings by nature and are simply not meant to struggle alone. We are our own worst critics so it takes an outside perspective of a loved one or a professional to help us recognize the strength amid chaos.

Hello. I have been a licensed Psychologist since 1998. Throughout the majority of that time my private practice was within a hospital, providing care for patients that experienced a significant medical issue that lead to adjustments in their overall mental health. These individuals were needing to make adjustments in their everyday life. Obviously, strategies were worked on because depression and/or anxiety might be present. Everyone faces times in their life that is challenging. If this situation is not resolved carefully negative issues can arise. The challenge is to resolve the uncertainty before it becomes compounded and more difficult to resolve.

I believe counseling is a holistic effort between the therapist and the people seeking services. I believe each person deserves respect and guidance on their individual journey. I know taking that first step towards change is typically the hardest step of all, but you are here doing the hard things! I am a licensed professional counselor in the State of Ohio (E.2102685). I received my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wright State University in 2019.

My name is Jamie Matthews and I have been working as a counselor since 2007, and really enjoy helping people reach their treatment goals. I believe that counseling is about change, and believe people can change any behavior not working in their life. I started my career working in community mental health where I worked with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, and gained a great deal of experience helping individuals manage symptoms of hallucinations, delusions, severe depression symptoms, and severe anxiety symptoms. From 2007-2015 I did mainly group counseling sessions, and some individual counseling sessions using evidence based practices. From 2015-2021, I have worked as an Outpatient Therapist where I have worked with children, adults, and families in a community mental health setting. Since 2021, I have worked in my own private practice, where I have continued working with clients using mainly telehealth services. I have really enjoyed the ability to reach clients throughout Ohio and Florida. I continue to use CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, and other techniques to assist my clients in reaching their therapeutic goals.

Hello! I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years and transitioned to private practice in February of 2020. Throughout my career, I worked closely with the Lucas County Juvenile Court and other community mental health agencies, assessing, diagnosing and treating a variety of emotional and behavioral issues. I have been privileged to have worked with adults, adolescents and children as they have navigated through various traumas and other life challenges. My therapeutic focus is based on assisting my clients by finding and maintaining a healthy Mind/Body/Spirit healing and balance. This involves using appropriate therapeutic interventions based on diagnosis to stabilize symptoms and use of coping strategies and self-care to maintain and thrive!

You are a woman who has been devastated by grief over pregnancy loss, infertility, or postpartum depression and anxiety. You desperately want to find someone to talk to about how alone and sad you feel. You feel heartbroken, ashamed, and angry lately. Your world has stopped while everyone else seems to be living their best life. You find yourself having the same fights with your partner over and over again. Society glamorizes pregnancy and motherhood which can make you feel even more alone and misunderstood. If you see one more pregnancy announcement or social media post about the happiness of motherhood, you might lose it! Your baby is important to you no matter how much time you have spent with them. You want to learn how to keep your baby’s memory alive. You want to learn how to experience happiness during this new transition to motherhood. You want to feel heard by someone without shame or judgment. You are not alone. As a woman, I have been there.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Ohio rather than a city like Columbus?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Ohio from Cincinnati to Cleveland! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Ohio.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
