I have worked as a therapist since 2020 and have worked in the Mental Health field in other positions since 2017. I have experience working with all ages (5-60+) in multiple settings: inpatient, community-based, school-based, and private practice. I like incorporating therapeutic techniques in a way that feels like we are having a normal conversation. I want my client's to feel confident to apply things they learn in a way that fits into the real world, not just throw flowery therapy language at you for an hour and see what sticks. Therapy shouldn't be a forever thing - it's a chapter of your life where you learn the tools to help you process what you need to and get moving again. Hopefully I can be a part of that journey for you!

Hi: My name is Barbara Doll. I have over 25 years of experience in therapy and mediation. I love to meet new clients and strive to make my sessions comfortable and, of course, without judgement. I want my sessions to be a safe, comfortable, peaceful place for clients to be able to have a safe place for people to express feelings and perhaps even identify feelings. I have a vast experience in divorce, separation and parenting issues, Domestic Abuse Issues, Depression and Anxiety Grief issues. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Brief Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing as therapy interventions. If you are unsure about those interventions I will be happy to take time to explain them to you. Making an appointment for therapy takes a lot of courage and I congratulate you for taking this big step. I want my clients to experience a safe, non-judgemental, peaceful place where clients can talk about their history, express their feelings and talk about their dreams and hopes for the future and discover what may be standing in the way to achieve those hopes and dreams.

Hello, I'm Sherri. Asking for help is never easy. Maybe you don’t know if you can ask for help because how can you reach out to someone who might balk when you tell them you’re questioning your faith or just on a nontraditional spiritual path? My name is Jeffrey, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Michigan, and a Licensed Social Worker and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Ohio. I have also been an ordained Lutheran pastor since 1989. My professional career began as an Associate Pastor in a Lutheran church in northwest Ohio, where I focused on youth ministry, Christian Education, and pastoral counseling. I entered Social Work in 1995 when I began work as a Family Worker in a residential facility for hard to place juvenile offenders, and then worked in a few outpatient counseling agencies providing mental health and substance use disorder services. I have experience working with people of all ages on general mental health issues, such as managing depression and anxiety, and have specialized in the areas of PTSD recovery and domestic violence and sexual abuse victims and offenders. Throughout my counseling career, I have maintained activity in ministry. I was trained in Clinical Pastoral Counseling and also have had training as a Spiritual Director. My counseling approach is generally non-directive, using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing in a Solution Focused, Client Centered frame work. I can incorporate spirituality as much or as little as the client desires, from not referencing spirituality at all to fully engaging the spiritual dimension of life. As a caring, empathetic listener, people find it easy to talk with me and be open about what needs attention in their lives. I look forward to working with you!

Most say that I am down to earth and relatable. Building professional rapport is my greatest strength. I am as human as you are and make sure to demonstrate that in session. I often see parts of my own self in others that I work with. I was previously a high school teacher for 14 years before becoming a counselor. And, I’m still a teacher in this role as well. Sessions are geared towards giving you time to express yourself while assigning you “homework” in the form of development of skills to help manage your symptoms. I also throw in some humor and some cordial conversation to help with the development of professional rapport. I specialize in trauma-based therapy and have experience working with individuals who are diagnosed with depression, anxiety, grief, and some personality disorders. I provide a multi-cultural perspective to treatment and adjust treatment related to people’s cultural background. I also provide spiritual direction, which includes traditional forms of faith as well as alternative sources. I understand the courage it takes to come to therapy. It can be nerve racking when coming to your first session. As someone who has been through counseling myself, I respect the courage it takes to take that first step. Whether it’s me or another professional, I hope you are able to get the help you need.

Hello, my name is Ruth McKowen, I am an Licenced Independent Social Worker and I am happy and honored to do the important work of helping people navigate the challenges and difficulties of life. I have been in the mental health field for ten years; five of those years I worked in crisis intervention, where I had the privilege and opportunity to meet people who were at a very dark point in their lives and to help provide stabilization and hope. My approach is centered on empowering clients to recognize their unique identity, skills, talents, and gifts, while providing the support and guidance they need.

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with experience supporting children, adolescents, couples, and adults. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a School Counselor for seven years across Indiana, Hawaii, and Ohio. These experiences shaped my passion for helping individuals navigate challenges, build resilience, and move toward meaningful personal growth. I believe that each person already holds the answers they are searching for within themselves. My role is to provide a nonjudgmental, genuine, and empathetic space where those answers can be explored, uncovered, and put into action.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
