LPCC, 5 years of experience
New to Grow
My name is Amber and I am a licensed professional clinical counselor in the state of Ohio. My role is to empower you on this journey of self-actualization. I bring authenticity, warmth, and a solution-oriented approach. We will be working side by side to identify your goals, values, and strengths. From there, we will process past experiences to help you move on to becoming your best self. I have been helping clients achieve their goals for the past several years. These clients range from the age of one-year-old to over fifty-years-old. About 60% of my clients are 12 and under. In working with younger children, I have had the most success using telehealth when parents are present to monitor, arrange a predictable environment, and assist with any technical issues. In working with younger children, the parents’ role is vital. I work as a team with parents and caregivers to build a healthy relationship and find the appropriate strengths-based parenting strategies for the child. Recommended parenting techniques are largely based on the Conscious Discipline model which encourages mindful parenting. With younger children, the parents’ cooperation is imperative to reach desired behavioral goals. I also draw from the approaches outlined in Working with Challenging Youth by Brent Richardson, Ed.D.
In our first session I will gather information and we will discuss the challenges you are experiencing. We will make a plan together to start working on a more resilient you and strategize how to live your abundant and meaningful life.
My clients have described me as approachable, supportive, warm, and gifted in working with children and adolescents.
Do you struggle with symptoms related to a history of trauma? ADHD-related symptoms? Anxiety? Depression? I provide a safe space to address these struggles that fosters hope for the future. I have approximately five years of experience working with clients primarily struggling with a history of trauma, ADHD, Autism, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Anxiety, and Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder.
My approach focuses on creating a supportive and accepting environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences and ultimately find their own solutions to their problems. I show unconditional positive regard, warmth, and authenticity with whatever therapy technique is being utilized. The client will decide on the direction of the therapy session while I use reflection, provide insights, and give relevant suggestions (e.g., I may recommend and explain a particular coping tool or DBT communication skill).
I have primarily used TF-CBT with children and adolescents who have struggled to adjust after trauma. Psychoeducation, progressive muscle relaxation, and creating a trauma narrative are pivotal pieces to this method.
I use this approach to help clients analyze if their habits are moving them closer or farther from their goals.
Solution-focused techniques go hand in hand with positive psychology in terms of identifying what is working and how to apply this to the issue.
Like starting a thriving business, start with your assets. Positive psychology focuses on strengths, well-being, and flourishing, rather than focusing primarily on mental illness.
