Richard Rice
You do not have to face your struggles without hope. If you are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, shame, or relationship challenges, I believe healing can begin when you have a safe place to be honest and reconnect with your faith. I am a clinical mental health counselor who sees counseling as a calling and ministry, not simply a career. I have worked with adolescents, adults, couples and families in addiction treatment, private practice, community agencies, and correctional settings, giving me experience supporting people through some of life’s most difficult seasons.
First session
You can expect a welcoming, compassionate space where you don’t have to pretend to have everything together. In our first session, we’ll talk about what brought you to counseling, what you’re carrying, and where you feel God is leading you. Together, we’ll outline a path forward and ensure you feel heard and understood. You will never be judged for where you are today — we’ll start right there and take the next step together.
Strengths
In my sessions, I bring a unique combination of strengths that sets my approach apart. When you want faith to be part of your therapy, I will help you explore your struggles through a Christian perspective while also using evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, and other relational and solution-focused techniques. You can expect a welcoming, compassionate space where you do not have to pretend to have everything together. I will partner with you to identify meaningful goals and begin to build a path toward healing, freedom and renewed hope. Whether you are wrestling with addiction, pornography, trauma, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, self esteem, or relationships, our work can address both your emotional well being and your spiritual growth.
Ideal clients
I am uniquely positioned to partner with adult individuals and couples who are seeking to overcome struggles with anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, low self‑esteem, trauma, addiction, pornography use, or relationship distress. My ideal client is someone who is open to exploring their challenges through both evidence‑based therapeutic techniques and a Christian‑based perspective. They value a supportive, compassionate, and appropriately challenging environment where their faith and values can be integrated with practical tools for growth. My goal is to help clients discover a path forward that feels meaningful, empowering, and aligned with the healing God desires for them.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy highlights the relationship between our belief systems, emotions, and behaviors. I integrate CBT interventions—such as cognitive restructuring and thought records—with biblical truths to help clients identify, challenge, and replace belief systems that contribute to emotional dysregulation and behavioral struggles. Because these belief systems are often rooted in past trauma, facilitating change and healing may also include experiential techniques such as EMDR therapy. I support the development of essential skills through education and structured homework, which may include relaxation techniques, problem-solving training, gradual exposure to feared situations, and activity scheduling. Additionally, I integrate CBT principles with techniques from Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to promote self-exploration, increased self-awareness, and lasting transformation.
