Hi, I'm Barbara Snow. But I prefer to be called Barb. I am an LISW-s. Which is a fancy term for someone who loves to help others help themselves to find solutions to life's challenges. I have a Bachelor and Master of Social Work. I am excited to start a new chapter in my life and begin seeing clients only through telehealth.

First session

My hope for the first session is that the client feels like they have been heard and understood. I use a lot of body language, and tone of voice to help convey welcome. I am very interested in allowing them to be the expert in their circumstance and allowing them to teach me about themselves, their family, and their life.

Strengths

The biggest strength that I bring into my sessions is the ability to listen. I will restate what you say in my own words just to make sure that I understand what you are saying. I am laid back and empathetic. I will get to know you so well that you won't be able to tell lies to me and I will call you out. I am direct so I say what I mean, mean what I say, and I really try hard to not say it mean.

Ideal clients

My ideal client is someone who is ready to work on themselves to understand their concerns whether it's being sad because they are transitioning into a different season in their life, or if something traumatic happened and they need to process through the situation and gain relief and learn a new way of responding to life due to that event or just plainly needing someone to talk to and listen so you know you were heard. The mind set would be ready to change by this I mean, trying new things, making excuses but discussing how those excuses aren't really answers to the problems.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to show the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. When you change one, the other two will change along with the change you make whether that change is positive or negative.

EMDR

EMDR or Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing is utilized for the treatment of trauma. It looks at negative thoughts along with memories at three different times the most recent, the worst and the first time you remember having that thought. We then use that memory to go and look to see what is causing it not to be able to be processed in the brain and put away in the long-term memory. Things like emotions, physical feelings, things that were seen can get stuck and by going back and releasing them we allow the memory to be reprocessed and put into the long term memory.
