I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with over a decade of experience helping people navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, and identity questions. My style blends depth-oriented therapy — exploring the deeper patterns and stories that shape you — with practical, evidence-based tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I spent nine years on the Boulder Crisis Team, providing psychiatric evaluations in ERs, jails, and walk-in clinics, which taught me how to stay calm and effective in moments of distress. In our work together, we’ll use both insight and skills — helping you understand the roots of your struggle while learning concrete ways to regulate emotions, change unhelpful patterns, and create a more meaningful, resilient life.

II’m a trauma integration specialist, somatic therapist, and EMDR-trained psychologist with a deep commitment to neurodivergent-affirming care. My work blends depth psychology, polyvagal theory, and creative strategies to support healing that honors complexity, identity, and lived experience. I help clients untangle survival patterns, reclaim nervous system agency, and build embodied resilience through relational, sensory, and narrative tools. In practice, I integrate somatic techniques to support interoceptive awareness, emotional regulation, and the reclamation of body-based safety. I use polyvagal-informed approaches to help clients understand their autonomic states and develop personalized strategies for co-regulation and connection. EMDR is a core modality in my work, especially for clients navigating complex trauma, dissociation, and chronic overwhelm. My sessions often include visual metaphors, parts work, and sensory-friendly adaptations to meet each client’s unique nervous system. I specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals, trauma survivors, and those navigating layered grief, identity, and systemic stress. My approach is collaborative, creative, and grounded in the belief that healing is not about fixing what’s broken; it’s about reclaiming what’s been buried, distorted, or denied. I aim to offer a space where clients feel seen, held, and empowered to move toward integration on their own terms.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and reside in Texas, I am also licensed in Colorado, Florida, Utah, South Carolina, and Vermont. I specialize in helping you identify and overcome issues that hinder your day-to-day enjoyment of life and/or interfere with progress towards goals you have set. In over thirty years of private practice counseling I have learned to meet clients’ needs not only with continued education and research but also through a multitude of life experiences. I enjoy working with a diverse range of clients and have found that humor when utilized in an appropriate way and time can be very beneficial. I believe trust is a fundamental element in any relationship. This trust has to be developed and nurtured to remain genuine. Through trust other aspects important to the relationship can prosper such as comfort in being open, sincerity, and a willingness to change. I find that humor when utilized in an appropriate way and time can be very beneficial. I am a life-long Texan, however, I have traveled extensively and embraced many different cultures and location specific issues. Through all of life’s changes I have learned that, even with the best of plans, things still do not always work out the way we would like. I have experienced many of the same issues as my clients so can relate to them on a personal basis. This has also allowed me to acquire an understanding of what clients may be going through even if I have not experienced the exact situation. Through any adversity there is no reason to feel alone.

Abeke "Kay" Baker, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a 2011 graduate of Mercer University School of Medicine’s Master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy. With a career in mental health and social services that began at just 14 years old, Abeke brings over 18 years of hands-on experience to her work. She began as a youth counselor with the Red Cross Lock Key Kids safety program and has since served in diverse roles, including Program Director for Howard County Parks and Recreation in Columbia, MD—supporting youth and young adults with developmental disabilities, autism, and maladaptive behaviors—as well as working in inpatient crisis stabilization settings for both adolescents and adults. Founder of All 1 Family, Inc. Abeke is the founder of All 1 Family, Inc., a nonprofit community mental health organization based in Atlanta, GA. The organization is dedicated to supporting the mental wellness of LGBTQ+ individuals—especially people of color—by offering a safe, affirming space for clients to explore their identities and experiences with the support of culturally competent therapists. All 1 Family provides low-cost counseling services, including individual, family, group, and couples therapy. The clinicians—many of whom identify as LGBTQ+ or allies of color—bring lived experience and deep empathy to their work. Founder’s Statement “While working across inpatient and community-based mental health settings—providing crisis intervention, assessments, and psychotherapy—I noticed a troubling pattern: many LGBTQ+ individuals were seeking support but struggled to find providers who were affirming, empathetic, and nonjudgmental. This gap often led individuals to delay or forgo much-needed care. All 1 Family was born from the belief that everyone deserves a safe space to be seen, heard, and supported.”

My work is guided by compassion, collaboration, and curiosity. I aim to create a space that feels calm and genuine, where you can exhale and simply be yourself without needing to perform or hold everything together. To me, affirming care means honoring every layer of identity and experience that shapes you. I understand that everyone carries their own story, history, and way of moving through the world. My role is to meet you where you are and walk alongside you as we explore what healing, stability, and growth can look like for you. Our time together is centered on connection, trust, and understanding. We might focus on strengthening coping tools, deepening self-awareness, or finding moments of calm in the middle of life’s noise. I tailor my approach to fit your pace and what feels most supportive, blending evidence-based methods with genuine human connection. Therapy is not about fixing what is broken. It’s about listening to the parts of you that have been unheard, tending to what needs care, and building a relationship with yourself that feels steady and kind. Hello. Thank you for considering me! You are, above all things, a human being and to be human is a wild experience. I think most of us are doing the best we can with what we have to work with at the time, and you should be proud of yourself for your willingness to learn more. My approach focuses on helping you gain insight into the variety of factors that have influenced and shaped you and your life. I see therapy as a process that organically unfolds towards deeper understanding and acceptance of who we are and what life is; from here we can shift how we relate to ourselves and life. My approach is grounded in humanistic, dynamic and holistic therapies. I often focus on the impacts of childhood, as it sets the foundation we use to navigate our lives. The feedback I typically get from clients is that they have gained a deeper understanding and acceptance of who they are and what they want from their life. I have observed many of my clients to feel more empowered and freer in their lives.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by state rather than a city?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across the entire state. If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near your address.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on ADHD?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, ADHD, is filtering therapists in Colorado that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use.
