Rhonda Thompson

LCSW (she/her)25 years of experience

In 22 years of practice, I’ve found that the most profound healing begins when a person feels truly heard and understood. With that in mind, my client-centered approach uses a variety of modalities that include CBT, trauma recovery work, solution-focused, mindfulness based approaches, psychoeducation and others. I work with clients from ages 5 to 65. This includes individuals and families, from children to adults, who feel stuck, overwhelmed, and unsupported. You have the need to be heard and understood, but life's challenges—like family conflict, unhelpful coping patterns, or the lingering effects of trauma—can significantly strain your ability to find a clear path forward toward meaningful progress. Let's work together to acknowledge those struggles and find practical ways to feel better.

First session

I use a person-centered approach to my practice. During our first session we will discuss what your goals are and how we can get there together. My hope is that you will feel comfortable right away expressing your concerns and needs. I gather as much background information from you as you feel comfortable sharing within the context of your concerns. I use CBT, mindfulness based approaches, trauma-informed interventions, and other modalities to ensure you receive the best care possible.

Strengths

I work with clients who are dealing with issues at home, work, school, in their relationships, or as a result of trauma. We will work together on a plan to ease the symptoms that interfere with your well-being and identify a pathway to feeling better and living more successfully. I want you to feel better as quickly as possible and maintain your progress for lasting change.

Treatment methods

Interpersonal

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) is a time-limited, evidence-based psychotherapy focused on resolving interpersonal problems and improving the quality of a client's relationships. The core principles include: 1. Here-and-Now Focus - While past experiences matter, IPT primarily focuses on current life events, communication patterns, and relationship difficulties happening right now. 2. Mood-Relationship Connection - The core premise is that psychological symptoms (like depression) and interpersonal relationships affect one another. Improving relationship functioning can alleviate symptoms, and vice versa. During the initial phase of therapy, the therapist and client identify the interpersonal problem areas that are contributing to the client's current distress, which can include grief and loss (not necessarily death), conflicts with others about differing relationship expectations, navigating major life changes, and/or chronic difficulties in maintaining satisfying relationships. During the initial phase of treatment I focus on evaluating symptoms, then we move into actively working on the chosen problem area. As changes take place we work to solidify the gains and plan for the future.
