New to Grow
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) in Northern Colorado. My journey began in 2002, working as a substance use/detox/dual diagnosis program for several years. I've worked the last 17 years in a county jail as a counselor and the last couple of years as a supervisor. Much of my experience has been related to working with clients in crisis. In 2023, I began providing therapy to people in the community. I have been able to work with diverse populations, gaining skills and knowledge along the way and look forward to working with you.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During the initial session, key areas that you find problematic will be discussed. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Strength based therapy in practice. In your first session, your background will be explored to identify therapy types that will be most helpful.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I want clients to feel a sense of control and this involves the teaching of coping skills. I have worked with clients who have severe mental health and substance issues, many of which were incarcerated. My approach is rooted in evidence-based practices, changing the things you have control of, and accepting the things you don't. My goal is to be there with you, wherever you are at. I will work with you to identify short and long-term goals for therapy. I want your time in therapy to be rewarding and worthwhile. My approach is solution-focused and goal directed. I will utilize a number of therapy tools to guide you. Please reach out with questions as needed.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I tend to work with clients who may be struggling with their mental health, substance use, life transitions, have a history of trauma, or clients who may be experiencing a profound loss. I want to work collaboratively with you to identify coping strategies, motivational help, and ways to cope with everyday stressors.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Sometimes clients have a tendency to remain in the thoughts from their past traumas and experiences OR worry too much about things that could happen in the future. I encourage clients to live in the now and focus on what you have control over and practice acceptance.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I work with clients in helping them obtain short term and long term goals by utilizing small goals each time we meet, learning appropriate coping skills, and helping them think of their goals in small steps.
