Kimberly Torres
HI, I'm Kimberly. My desire is to come alongside you in your healing journey. Instilling hope is an important part of my process, together with empowerment, encouragement and education. My goal is to help you thrive instead of simply survive — to develop a greater understanding of yourself and feel more in control of your thoughts, emotions and responses.
I'm glad you're taking the time to explore mental health options for yourself, your family or someone you care about.
I'm glad you're taking the time to explore mental health options for yourself, your family or someone you care about. And blessings on your journey.
First session
My clients always tell me they appreciate my goal-directed, science & evidence-based focus, and nonjudgmental focus from session one. I want you to feel comfortable being you, all of you, as it sets the foundation for healing. During the first session we will complete a biopsychosocial assessment and then discuss case conceptualization, likely modalities (techniques we will use) and set up a plan.
Strengths
Counseling with me is centered around understanding you as a whole person — your experiences, thoughts, emotions, body and goals. My approach combines compassion, education and evidence-informed therapeutic methods to help you better understand what you're experiencing and develop practical ways to move forward. The goal isn't simply to survive difficult experiences. It's to rediscover a sense of control, connection and hope. I don't do "talk therapy", alone. We will use goals, therapeutic techniques, interventions and evidence based practices to get you back to feeling capable of managing daily functioning in the shortest amount of time possible.
Ideal clients
My therapeutic approach works better with those that want to see therapy as a partnership. I provide the techniques and interventions, along with education, and you figure out which ones work best for you. This process works best when the client is willing to utilize interventions and techniques between sessions. Taking notes during sessions can be helpful as reminders regarding what you'd like to continue working on during the week.
Treatment methods
Trauma-Informed Care
As a trauma therapist, I help you understand how your body and brain work together so you can learn ways to rid yourself of unwanted symptoms and or learn how to better manage them. With EMDR, Somatic Experiencing and Parts therapy, we also work on reprocessing traumatic experiences so that you are able to move forward.
Somatic
The body is amazing. You will learn how the body stores emotions and ways to process those stored emotions.
Strength-Based
Identifying your strengths and using those to heal is important to the process.
Gottman method
With Gottman & EFT, you will have the toolbox needed for strengthening your relationship.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
ACT, CBT, all types of CBT, and CPT all focus on helping you to understand how your thoughts, emotions and behaviors work together and ways to better refocus and reframe what is troubling.
