Welcome! My name is Settie Phillips. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, EMDR trained, and a member in good standing of the American Counseling Association and Colorado Counseling Association. I received my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. My areas of expertise/interest include personality disorder abuse, divorce, couples, complex trauma, and co-parenting.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. I will ask some questions to better understand your history, current concerns, and what has brought you to therapy at this time. You are also welcome to ask questions about my approach so you can determine whether we feel like a good fit. Together, we will begin identifying goals for therapy and clarifying what progress would look like for you. We will also discuss scheduling and next steps. My aim is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and with a clearer sense of direction moving forward.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a clinician is my ability to balance depth with structure. Clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed, confused, or stuck in painful relational patterns. I provide a steady, thoughtful presence while also offering clear frameworks, practical tools, and actionable strategies that help create meaningful movement forward. I have specialized training in trauma and relational dynamics, including EMDR, and I bring a nuanced understanding of personality disorder abuse and high-conflict coparenting. I am skilled at helping clients untangle complex emotional experiences, restore self-trust, and develop stronger boundaries without losing their compassion or values. Clients frequently describe my approach as warm, validating, and direct. I will not collude with self-blame or minimization, but I also gently challenge patterns that may be keeping you stuck. My work integrates insight, emotional processing, and skill-building so that growth is not just conceptual, but embodied and sustainable. I am particularly effective with high-functioning, motivated individuals who are ready to do meaningful work. My goal is not simply symptom relief, but long-term transformation: greater emotional regulation, relational clarity, self-compassion, and confidence in your decision-making.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I love working with individuals and couples navigating high-conflict relational dynamics, personality disorder abuse, divorce, complex trauma, and coparenting challenges. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, destabilized, or doubting their own perceptions after prolonged exposure to relational stress or manipulation. I also work extensively with highly motivated, high-functioning professionals who value personal growth and are committed to deep, meaningful change. These clients often hold themselves to high standards and are seeking clarity, resilience, and long-term transformation. They tend to have a strong growth mindset and are open to honest self-reflection, skill-building, and developing greater self-compassion. I work particularly well with clients who are ready to move from crisis management toward intentional growth. Whether you are recovering from emotional abuse, attempting to coparent in a high-conflict dynamic, rebuilding after divorce, or working through complex trauma, I provide structured, thoughtful, and trauma-informed support. My clients often value clarity, accountability, and practical strategies alongside compassionate exploration. Together, we focus on strengthening boundaries, restoring self-trust, improving emotional regulation, cultivating self-compassion, and creating healthier relational patterns moving forward.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use ACT to help people stop fighting their inner experiences and start moving toward their values. I support clients in developing the mindfulness and flexibility needed to lead a meaningful life, even in the face of difficult emotions.

EMDR

I integrate EMDR into my work to help clients move past the lingering effects of trauma. People can transform how the brain stores difficult experiences, turning painful triggers into manageable memories that no longer dictate their current choices.

Positive Psychology

I utilize Positive Psychology to help people tap into their innate potential. I assist clients in building the mental and emotional resources necessary to thrive, focusing on personal growth and the cultivation of a life that feels rich and rewarding.
