Hi, I'm Beth. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Doctorate in Social Work and over two decades of experience working alongside people navigating some of life's most complex moments, including questions of identity, relationships, mental health, grief, and the kind of transitions that can shake your sense of who you are and where you're headed.
I'm originally from New Orleans and have called San Diego home for over 20 years. I bring that lens of affirmation, cultural humility, and genuine respect for the full complexity of human experience into every therapeutic relationship. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my job is to help you access the clarity, strength, and tools that are already within you.
I tend to be warm, direct, collaborative, and yes, funny. I'm not a blank-screen therapist. You can expect me to be present, engaged, and occasionally willing to gently challenge you when I think it will help. Therapy can be hard work, and I believe there's real value in laughter along the way. Thank you for taking the time to review my brief profile. My name is Dr. Sara Shuffer. I hold a Doctorate in Social Work and have been in the healthcare field for 20 years, and a licensed clinical social worker for 15 years. I have extensive experience in healthcare, and have worked with many clients on grief and loss issues, depression, cultural conflicts, intergenerational and relationship stressors, work/life balance issues, and other life stressors that can potentially affect the daily living of a person. I am very humble to meet every client that decides to select me as their therapist.
Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, past experiences, or life stressors that makes it difficult to feel calm, confident and fully present in their lives. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, depression and challenges that can leave people feeling stuck, discouraged, and disconnected. Relationships might feel overly painful, or seem to start out great, but inevitably end with disappointment. People might feel they can't trust themselves, which can lead to hopelessness, despair and even depression. Some may have things sorted pretty well, but there's that one area that seems to poison the well and whatever you try, it just won't change.
Whatever it might be, my approach is compassionate, collaborative, empowering and practical. I integrate trauma-informed modalities such as EMDR, DBT, Mindfulness and Somatic/body-based approaches to help my clients better understand their emotions, cope better and create meaningful change. I have helped people in community mental health, acute crisis and in private practice. Most recently, I worked within a DBT Team, helping people learn to heal from trauma, narcissistic and other abuse, and the characterological issues that can follow, to restructure and rebuild their lives. I also welcome conversations about meaning, purpose and the spiritual dimensions of healing when that is important to the client.

Hi, I’m Lois, Mother of 3 amazing boys, business owner and lover of life. I have learned so much through my years of working with clients individually, in groups and with families and couples. What I have learned is that as humans we are resilient! We have been given this life to have joy and life lessons. I have been honored to guide and encourage many clients over the last 20 years. It is my life purpose to help others especially when they cannot see the abundance and joy that is around us. I use many different modalities to guide clients on their journey. One of my main modalities is EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) which are both very effective healing modalities. I'm always excited to learn new techniques and offer a variety of modalities to assist my clients in their healing journey. I also use short-term solution-focused therapy, CBT, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness among others to bring about change.
I truly believe as a therapist I must do my own work, for I cannot take you to a place that I have not visited. I have done many years of my own therapy, attended healing retreats, participated in group therapy and attended 12 step meetings, writing and more recently I became certified as a Kundalini Yoga teacher. My main goal for the Kundalini teacher training was to deepen my practice, to understand myself and others on a deeper level and to inspire others to use self care, chanting and meditation to create healing physically, spiritually and mentally.
