(she/her)
I’m Mariane Makkar, LCSW, LICSW based in California. I am also licensed in Washington, DC. I completed my graduate studies at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Since 2017, I’ve worked in a variety of psychiatric and mental health settings. My own journey has been unique and authentic, and I integrate that into how I show up for clients. look forward to learning yours.
Our first session will focus on building a positive, trusting rapport. This foundation helps us understand your concerns and collaboratively develop a treatment plan. I am resourceful and flexible, and I tailor my approach, so each client is supported in a way that aligns with their unique goals and needs.
I really value getting to know each client and learning their unique story. When I understand who someone is, I can match them with the treatment approach that fits best. I’m an empathic and caring therapist, and my goal is to help clients reflect on their lives and grow emotionally.
I believe a huge part of my clients’ success comes from simply showing up and committing to therapy. For many, starting something that once felt impossible is already a major accomplishment. My role is to help clients reduce symptom intensity and develop healthy coping skills. I’ve found that when goals are clear and specific, they are much more achievable. I also see self-acceptance as a big success once clients learn to accept themselves, they can better understand their feelings and emotions.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I work with my clients collaboratively to develop a strategy together in implementing CBT. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy involves a positive change in a negative thinking pattern. I support my client by allowing them to better understand their behaviors and thoughts are connection and motivate their behaviors. Then I support my client with using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations, to change their negative thoughts.

From the moment I begin my session there was no doubt Mariane was the practitioner for me. Her authentic approach, empathy, compassion, and consideration were center stage from start to finish. I was a bit apprehensive about starting with a new therapist as continuity was a concern after spending three years in that pervious space. However our connection was seamless, her perspective enlightening, and thought provoking. I felt extreme emotionally safety.
