My name is Lindsay and I first want to say thank you for taking time to read this. If you are reading this, it's possible that you are searching for answers in the form of searching for a counselor. It’s possible that you are hurting. Or maybe you are just browsing and that is okay too! Just the act of considering the sharing of yourself is a massive step in working toward getting help. As life comes, as it does, experiencing situations and emotions that are confusing and frightening is truer to the human experience than most would like to admit. It's not uncommon to carry anxiety, depression, fear, guilt, and shame (just to name a few) like a low-grade fever that still allows us to function, but barely. We all have different ideas of what counseling looks like. For a long time, I could only picture the typical laying on a couch in which the counselee divulged their darkest secrets to an extensively trained professional with glasses and a clipboard that made sense of everything even if all the information they had was a squiggle and a dot. Thank you, TV therapy. At its core, counseling is about change. I am a Christian counselor meaning that the types of counseling that I have experience in start with the foundation and belief that God made the world and everything in it. He has made himself known through Jesus and has a lot to say about the deep parts of who we are that long for change. There is hope. I have worked for almost 15 years with individuals who are familiar with suffering. I have my master's degree from the University of Louisville and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Tennessee. I have worked with adults experiencing a range of identified problems including grief and loss, anxiety, depression, bipolar, burnout, caregiver fatigue, and managing chronic disease processes. In addition to Christian Counseling, I practice Cognitive Behavior Therapy and I love to use tools including learning, journaling, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and development of coping skills to help individuals take active participation both in and out of sessions. I would consider it an honor to connect with you and hear your story!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will focus on what the motivation was to search out counseling at this time. I will begin with getting a basic understanding of the problem and also introduce what our sessions will look like. I hope that a person can walk away from our first session knowing that they have taken a good first step and understanding how I fit into their process of growth.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have worked in hospice and geriatric work for 15 years. This has allowed me to serve an extremely diverse range of patients and families. All are experiencing a loss but for many this has been complicated by a secondary diagnosis. Throughout my career, I have pursued further training in Christian Counseling. I feel like being able to utilize the knowledge, skills, and experience that I have gained in both of these areas allows me to skillfully apply the techniques to the whole person.

Christian Counseling

I am a Christian counselor meaning that the types of counseling that I have experience in start with the foundation and belief that God made the world and everything in it. He has made himself known through Jesus and has a lot to say about the deep parts of who we are that long for change. There is hope. I will help clients to view their presenting problem through a Christian worldview and focus on how this can shift how we interpret and response to situations.

Grief Therapy

I primarily have experience in working with individuals navigating into life issues and the grieving process. I am currently working toward a certification in grief therapy focused on the task of grieving and interventions to move a person forward in their grief process.
