My name is Olesya Leskel and I am a Licensed Professional Counsellor with 14 years of experience helping adults, children, and couples with a variety of mental health issues, relationship concerns and life transitions. I am versed in various counseling techniques and have extensive experience working with trauma, anxiety, and depression. I take time to learn about the needs of a person I am serving to help find the best way of meeting thier hopes as they embark on a journey of healing and personal growth.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My primary goal in therapy is to help create a safe and accepting environment for my clients. I feel that the success of the therapy is greatly affected by the relationships that are established between the client and the therapist. At the first session my clients should expect to be met by a friendly, warm, understanding, and accepting therapist who has a genuine interest in supporting and helping them on the challenging but very rewarding journey of healing, exploration, and growth.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have always been passionate about supporting and helping others, this has been very meaningful to me. I have gone through some difficult times in my life and can appreciate and empathize with the struggles that my clients might be facing. I believe that sometimes all we need is for someone to see our pain and to let us know that we are not alone.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

My interest has always been in trauma work. For years I have been helping my clients heal from the big and little traumas they might have experienced throughout their lives. Most people think of trauma as a particular negative or traumatic event that might have taken place in a person's life. My understanding of trauma is based on the way the brain of the particular individual responded to something that happened rather then an event itself. Even when the experience might have seemed insignificant the invisible effect of it can influence our present day mental health, relationships we build, and become the underlying reason behind the most common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I have been using EMDR for the last 5 years not only as the best way to treat trauma but also to address the underlying reasons behind anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues and relationship dynamic concerns.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have been using Action Commitment Therapy as one of the most effective ways to teach my clients healthy strategies of addressing unwanted and negative thoughts as well as to cope with strong and sometimes overwhelming negative emotions.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have been using DBT as one of the best therapy techniques to help my clients be present for the present moment instead of living in the past or the future, accept things that cannot be changed, and cope with strong negative emotions by choosing the most productive response.
