New to Grow
Hello! First of all, congratulations for taking the courageous step of considering counseling. For many of us, there are barriers that make us hesitant to seek treatment. You've had the courage to make it this far, and together, we can empower you to achieve your therapy goals and feel better in your life. My style of therapy is warm and interpersonal. I want to come alongside you on your journey to help empower you and help you find the tools you need to cope with the struggles you are facing. I am strengths-based and positive, and plan treatment and goals around what you want to achieve through therapy. I am respectful and non-judgmental. I look forward to getting to know the beautiful person God created in you, and empowering you to achieve your mental health goals!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, we'll get to know each other a bit, and I'll gather some background information about your life and what's bringing you to therapy. I'll also share a little about how I function as a therapist and we'll talk about what you want from your therapy process.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My therapeutic approach is warm, engaging, and collaborative, viewing you, the client, as the expert on your own life while I act as a guide providing insight and reflection. I emphasize equality in the therapeutic relationship, and my primary therapy modality is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with flexible integration of other methods. I address a wide range of issues across all ages, aiming to identify specific challenges and provide tangible tools for growth, and offering virtual therapy with multi-state licensure in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Utah.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I've been a counselor for 14 years, and have worked in a variety of settings, including mental health care, schools, nursing homes, a military installation, and non-profit organizations. I am currently licensed in Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Utah. I have experience with every age group from infants to a 104-year-old, and have helped people address a variety of struggles, from severe and chronic mental illness to anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma issues, to simply adjusting to new life circumstances or coping with the deployment of a loved one. With children, I have helped families work through issues of depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), ODD, PTSD, changes in behavior, and much more.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Rather than trying to "fix" or eliminate symptoms, ACT aims to increase psychological flexibility—the ability to be present and open to experiences of life while still taking action that align with one's values. It is a bit of a "pyramid" therapy, building on the strengths and insights from other therapies, so it includes principles and tools from other therapies, such as DBT, CBT, psychodynamic, and relational therapies.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
As a therapist whose background is in social work, person-centered therapy aligns strongly with those social work values. I see you as the expert on yourself, and us as a therapy team, each of us bringing insight and equal status in the therapeutic relationship. My style is very warm and empowering, and I believe in your strengths and ability to overcome challenges!
