I believe that every person is a light in this world, and in order to heal from pain and suffering we must discover our inner strength, inherent worth, and greater purpose. Everyone is subject to the same universal challenges in life. Some of these include meeting our needs in a competitive society, discovering who we are, understanding the meaning of our lives, and coping with change. When stress becomes overwhelming, and when life becomes a struggle, this is the time to reach out for help. My approach to helping clients is very much influenced by humanistic psychology. Understanding the nature and dynamics of suffering is important, but I believe my most important task as a therapist is to help clients learn strategies for regaining wellness and fulfilling their potential. In my role as a therapist I incorporate counseling techniques that are based on cognitive-behavioral theory, polyvagal theory, psychodynamic therapy, and dialectical theory. I have over 10 years of experience working with clients in different roles. Before working in private practice, I worked as an outpatient therapist for a community mental health clinic during the COVID-19 Pandemic, as a college counselor. While pursuing my graduate degree, I worked in the child welfare field for abuse/neglect courts. Prior to graduate school, I worked as a tobacco cessation specialist in the public health field, where I facilitated support groups for clients with nicotine addiction. My journey into the helping professions started in 2005 when I began working as a certified nursing assistant and caregiver for clients with developmental disabilities and the elderly. For many years, I have been motivated to help and heal others. Thank you for reading about my personal counseling philosophy. I am looking forward to working with you!

I have been a therapist for years, and have spent a great deal of time helping those who have experienced trauma. I love working with people and have a special place in my heart for the Arts and Music. For many years I owned a woodcraft and ceramic business and continue to keep crafts close to me. I also love music and love to play the organ, piano, and guitar. I was a non-traditional student and received my bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology in 1996 from East Stroudsburg University, then raised my own three children for a while. I returned to school and completed my master's degree in Social Work in 2020 from Capella University. I currently hold an LCSW in PA. I have taken many additional trainings in Trauma-informed counseling, DBT, EMDR, and of course crafts/painting. Hello there, I am Desire. You might be wondering how therapy can help or how it might work for you. Therapy can be a vehicle to address any number of needs or areas of healing in one's life. I believe therapy looks like more than just talking about thoughts and emotions - though that is certainly part of it. It is about figuring out how to feel empowered, how to cope with life's worries and stressors, and how to overcome the hurts of the past. Therapy can be an effective answer in learning how to deal with any number of issues, including trauma, anxiety, work or relationship challenges, loss and depression, or just figuring out a better way to meet any goals you may have for yourself in life to live more happily and feel more fulfilled. I view a healthy therapeutic relationship as being one where you can be comfortable, heard, and seen to help create a safe space for exploration and growth. I see my role as a therapist as providing education and support that builds trust to allow us to figure out the path to get from where you are to where you would like to be.

No matter how hard we try in life, inevitably we come across unpredictable waters. Sometimes riding the waves of life can be delightful and sometimes it can be soul crushing. Thus, I seek to help high functioning adults and adolescents to "embrace uncertainty and live joyfully through the process." I hope to energize and empower you to become the best version of yourself, especially during times of adversity. I work with you to evaluate your life goals and to gain insight and clarity about factors that might influence your success. I personally have experienced the power of having someone offer support in both the good and bad times of uncertainty, and it would be an absolute honor to support you as you navigate your life!

Hi! First, I want to acknowledge that looking for a therapist is a brave and important step towards your wellness, recovery and healing. So strong work for getting to this step! Therapy is a process, and it takes strength and vulnerability to get to where you want to be. I have spent ten years working as a licensed clinical social worker in the hospital setting where I have worked with immigrants, families, young adults, and older adults who come from multicultural backgrounds and LGBTQ+ identities with varying levels of mental health struggles, fears, and traumas. I have spent these years dedicating my time to supporting those dealing with chronic health issues, managing life after a cancer diagnosis, learning how to engage in life after trauma(s), coping with mental health challenges while balancing careers and relationships, and learning how to live with various forms of grief. My commitment is to create a safe and inclusive space for you to work through your challenges so that you can feel more confident and empowered to move forward.

Hello, welcome to my page. I am a graduate from Westfield State University with a Master's in Social Work. I currently hold a license in individual clinical social work (LICSW). I love the work I do and am inspired by the lives of everyday people. I believe in engaging people in a non-judgmental, empowering, and respectful manner that is dynamic and unique to best fit your lifestyle. I strive to help clients feel valued, gain positive results, and achieve goals using tailored interventions to your needs. My approach I believe that regardless of what brings you to therapy most people are struggling with making peace with their humanness. Based on this principle I take a Humanistic approach to supporting Clients focusing on their existing strengths, challenging limiting self-narratives, and building healthy patterns of behavior. My focus I typically think of my clients as a "person in the environment approach" thinking about their interactions and relationships within the micro-to-macro systems that surround them. I work with adults who are feeling overwhelmed and managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, and childhood trauma. Much of the deeper work done by my clients surrounds themes of perfectionism, childhood attachment wounds, and healing from relational trauma. My communication style I take a conversational tone in therapy trying to ensure I discuss clinical topics in a way that is meaningful, and easily applied to your daily life. My goals for you My approach to goal setting with clients is all about collaborating to identify your focus and needs. You are the expert in you so developing trust is always the first step to achieving any goals you may bring to therapy.

25 years as a clinical social worker has taught me that finding the right therapist is like trying on a pair of shoes. It has to be the right fit for you to start the journey of self-exploration. I believe in a strength based approach, where we not only explore the issues that brought you to therapy, but we explore how to expand the things that bring you joy and happiness. As Dr. Seuss once said, “life is a great balancing act” and he could not have been more right. My practice focuses on individual therapy for adolescents, and adults. My areas of expertise include depression, mood disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD, Trauma, and transitional issues of work, relationships, etc. Client’s describe me as genuine and authentic, supportive, strength based, straight forward, and always keeping hope alive.

Search therapists by insurance

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Massachusetts rather than a city like Boston?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Massachusetts from Springfield to Cape Cod! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Massachusetts.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on LGBTQ?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, LGBTQ, is filtering therapists in Massachusetts that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
